Hey guys, thought I would share some stuff. I make cutaway locks for locksmiths and collectors I'm usually baked when I make the crazier ones! http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/7657/cimg7530v.jpg http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/134/cimg7531.jpg http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/8551/abus5550final.jpg http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/1771/cimg6920.jpg http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/2923/cimg6922.jpg http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/3807/cimg7509.jpg http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/1059/cimg7743.jpg http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/7669/cimg7742w.jpg http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/6377/cimg6013.jpg http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/9158/cimg73112.jpg Anyone else do any quirky machine work? Would love to see it if you do
Those look dope. How secure are the inner mechanisms? I sure as hell wouldn't wanna use that to actually protect something, though.
I like it They've been called everything else but classy! Cheers! The mechanisms are actually quite secure on high security locks with regard to picking them. The Medeco (very popular in the states) has a few bypasses to it which kindof makes them medium security, even though they are sold as high. The Abloys (the silver padlock and the last photo) are pretty secure and sold as high security, and they actually are. No one has picked an Abloy Protec to date, which is pretty impressive as the actual basic design is 100 years old already. When you buy a lock, you're not buying something that is unbreakable, but instead you are buying 'time'... the Abloys for example make it uneconomical to pick/decode as it would take you a lifetime and more to try every one of the 1 billion possibilities. Might sound like a good idea, but it just makes thieves look for other ways in. Same with safes... they rely on keeping the thief out for as long as possible in the hope that staff will be back by Monday morning before they get into it. Do love locks though... I know it's the height of geekyness, but I just see them as little puzzles, and they are quite fascinating to look at Oh yeh, one more thing... I actually have the first padlock I ever picked and cutaway securing my shed >_< I rely on not many people carrying lockpicks
