Curing weed need some advice

Discussion in 'Harvesting and Processing Marijuana' started by About30ninjas, Jul 27, 2017.

  1. My bud has been drying for about 4 to 5 days, it's hung up on clothes pins. The bud is crisp but the stem bends. Atm I jarred it and was wondering if it's the right thing to do? Also will adding this additional moisture help right now? [IMG]

No two dry locations are the same and what works over here doesn't work at all over there.
This is Southern California and super low humidity most of the time dropping into single numbers at times.
If I wait until the stem snap it's all ruined and dried to dust and crumbles off the stem when touched and smokes like a flaming torch being swallowed.
I hang dry just until the smallest buds are stiff then it all comes down, Gets stripped from the stem, Cut into thumb sized nuggets and I start to slow the dry by stacking all the weed over night in a pair of new unused trash cans for a big load or an ice chest if it's just one plant.
Takes about a week to get down to the mid 60s humidity in the cans and then I jar it with 62% Boveda packs.

If your in a high humidity zone this is useless and you need a radically different method.
Fans and screens and AC cranked usually.

  4. Perfect dry conditions are 777
7 days at 70 degrees and 70% humidity. Great if you have a controlled space you can just hang and forget it for a week. I'm not that lucky and get to work in a smoking hot garage so it's a bit more challenging.

Go ahead and remove it if it gets feeling over wet in the jar. A humidity gauge come in really handy but your fingers and brain can do it too.

2 days on the lines then I bag it like so.. Days are spent out on the washer.

And nights stacked in the can with the lid on snug. This slows the dry and let the buds sweat up more moisture overnight without the ruinous fast dry that bring on harshness and that nasty mowed lawn hay stink a bad dry can produce,
As the week progresses the buds spend more time in the can and less outside. The last day they may only need an hour or 2 outside the can depending on how dry the day is.

Hot and dry is my norm.

  8. Curing out bud is something that everybody pretty much has to figure out on their own, honestly. But your goal is a long slow dry to gently pull the right amount of moisture out of the buds. When you jar the buds up, leave the lid on for 24 hours and then open it up and have a look. Whatever the moisture content is, it'll really show up at that point. Many times when I jar ours up, I'll leave the lids off for the first couple of days so air can get in and around the buds...but not in a huge way. You really need to watch it when you put it in jars because sealing it up and it being too moist will get you mold. The key is figuring out the right amount of hang time before putting it in the jars. Again, something you pretty much have to figure out on your own because no two locations or situations are alike. Best of luck. TWW

  9. Don't pack the jars full either. We generally fill one up 1/2 or 2/3 and leave space for air. You'll surely get mold if you stuff them full with no way for air to move around the buds.
