Hey blades! I am a fairly new grower (2 years) and have always wanted to cross an auto with a regular seed, this year I finally got the chance to get my hands on some regular seeds. My question is can I cross an auto with a regular and then back to produce a stronger auto? The strains I currently can cross are: Cali Skunk Haze (Regular Male) X Purple (Auto Fem) Cali Skunk Haze (Regular Male) X Northern Lights (Auto Fem) I am still a bit confused between the F1 hybrids and the pure strains so doing this seems a bit easier to me.
Hey man. I had a similar question, a while back, but never followed through. Here is whatr I think You cant-as a rule- clone autoflowers. My friend did, like 3 clones, that produced 1g each, 4" tall..when the mom produced like 45g. Knowing that, here is what my friend would do. when you have your mothers and dad almost ready, pop the autos. Then place into the flower room with other moms and flip the lights. wait like a week or two before putting the male in there, since Ghetto_chem at another site said "the calyxes need a bit longer to develop to hold the seed." they need about 4 weeks to mature. THEN.. pop the half-autos at the same time you have more fem autoflowers. then, pick ONE male of 50% auto, cross to 100% autoflower female. I say this, because doing it the other way(back to the reg male) would produce 25% auto genes, this way would produce 75% autoflower genes. dont know the % of ruderalis The only problem, is that autos cannot be cloned, really. so you cannot choose a good mother by selection, by growing the plant out while the clone grows(then youd know which mom produced the most or tastiest) Its like this, man. What do you have to lose? 1 grow? shit, youd be set w seeds for a while to grow headstash, and they may be somethin super spectacular. f-1 simply means the 1st generation of filial offspring...different strains crossed, will retain many similar traits of mom and pop.
Auto flowers all the way till recently and they been out for quite some time sucked majorly. Yields sucked etc. The last 2 years or so theres been major improvement with some Autos producing massive amounts. Thats required them to backcross the auto genetics almost out but keep enough to make it autoflower and somewhat shorter grow time. End result has been massively yielding autos but instead of the 60 days or so of past autos 70-100 day seed to harvest. Check out Dutch Passions new line up they have blogs and grow journals on there website as well as The AutoFlowerNetwork - The only AutoFlower forum if you scroll down DP runs a section of that forum site. Check out the Think Different, and Star Ryder strains.
Many of today's autos that are producing strong harvests, only carry the auto gene. From what I have read, it appears that the current auto strains carry the same auto gene, but that's about all from the rudi side. The rest is full on regular 12/12 genes. Apparently the success was not expected and even surprised the breeders. The older autos that yield less, have about 50-60% rudi left in them. I have some dark devil that just started flower after 4 weeks. Not as tall as I would have liked, but the this auto strain is from a BigBudXL x a red colored rudi. Got good reviews, although I am still skeptical that it will produce what it supposedly can.
