Hey guys, I’m on my first grow and wanted to share progress and ask for your suggestions and comments. I’m going to put as much information about what I’m working with on here. If I left anything out please let me know.
    Strain: headband - auto flower
2 plants, only difference being one is a 2.1L pot and the other is in 2.8L pot.
    20/4 light schedule, ppfd ~520
Light spectrum ? I have not been able to find that information. Most bulbs are white, a few are red
    Planted date 9/29
    Sprouted date ?
    Transplanted to 2.1/2.8 L plastic pots 10/9
    Entered veg 10/14
Growing in Fox Farms Happy Frog soil
Not yet fed. Watered twice since 10/9
    Temp ~70f
    Humidity 50-60%
I’m giving it water than is as close to 6.2 ph as possible, but my Vivosun ph meter has not been great.
No fertilizer yet but it will be getting Growth Science Nutrients Starter Pack

So these babies were actually planted and sprouted by a friend then moved to my house because his shed is way too cold, especially at night. It’s not in a tent; it’s just not in my budget right now. I’m using a car sunshade as reflective material. I know the temp and humidity levels aren’t ideal but I’m limited in what I can do about it. A couple leaves have brown spots on them - I had been misting them and some people suggested that that may be causing those spots.

When I posted before everyone said it is over watered. The last time I watered was 4 days ago and it’s STILL wet. What am I doing wrong? As of tonight I have a very small fan blowing on them in hopes it will dry out the soil. I know it’s not good for them to sit in wet soil for too long. Of all the stuff on this post, this is probably what I’m most concerned about. They’ve been wet for a long time now. When the time comes to transplant again, I’ll be using 3 gallon fabric pots and I hope to use the dunk method.

I know the drawing is bad but it’s an accurate representation. Does this plant have 3 or 4 nodes right now? Those first little round leaves at the bottom don’t count as a node, right?

I’ve read you can top once you’ve got 4 nodes but I was planning to wait because to me, the plant seems too weak. Would you agree?

I just raised the ppfd today because I’m pretty confident it is in veg state now. Right now it’s reading about 520, before now I had it around 320.

I know there was a lot to this post, so thank you for reading. Questions, comments, critiques, suggestions, give me what you got.

edit: I was considering buying one of Jorge Cervantes books. Which one should I get? Or should I save my $30 because the internet is source enough?

  2. The cotyledons are not included in node count.
Looks like you are at the third node.
Don't worry about those old spots, damage done, move on.
Don't need a book, use GrowWeedEasy site for reference if needed.
    Just ask here, we'll help.

  3. those pots are going to be too small for flowering if you are expecting any yield at all IMO you can go bigger after they grow out of those just keep on doing what you are doing for now go easy on the water give plenty of light

  4. Use 3 gallon up to 5 gallon pots for your autos .
And its time to feed nutrients . Only after you transplant into bigger pots .
No need to wait feed now precent yellowing ..
If you keep it in this smaller pot as somebody said you be lacking yield and have to water 10 times daily .

  6. yea I had planned to move them to 3 gal cloth pots once the leaves were bigger than the diameter of these pots. I really wanted to go right from the little hydrocups into the 3 gallon but much of what I was reading said it’s best to do an intermediate size first

That’s the thing though, the damn things are still wet after 4 days! How do I get it to dry out? I think cloth pots will help.
Do you think I should transplant into 3 gallon as soon as possible? I’d prefer they be in the big ones but I’m worried about shocking it too much since the last transplant was less than two weeks ago. Should I just go for it even though the leaves haven’t outgrown the diameter of the 1 gallon pots? I would’ve preferred just to start there but a lot of what I’ve been reading said increasing pot size gradually would help prevent over watering.
So I should go ahead and feed huh? I was going to do everything at half strength. I’ve got one of the Vivosun ppm meters, and I know there’s a number you’re supposed to hit but if the ppm meter is anything like my ph meter I don’t trust it at all lol. My tap water reads at like 50ppm. The last time I looked, these nutrients, even at full strength, didn’t get me to that target number. Should I titrate the dosage until I reach the target ppm even if it means I have to exceed the manufacturers recommended dose?

There is no need to wait . Put them in bigger pots now if you like . Its always best to let that soil dry up before doing so . Roots will stay together .Makes it safer . Or you can cut the pot off when its sitting in the new pot so there is zero chance damaging roots .
To slowly move up in pot size . Benefits are smaller pots in a small area .
There is zero reason to move up slowly. Some growers think plants cant make roots if there placed in the final container . Some growers thing they need to potty train plants lol.
My proof ? Look outside see that huge tree . That was just a baby planted directly into the ground never potted up.
And for transplant shock ??? WTF is transplant shock ? Does the plant have to make friends with the new soil ? There will be no issues your soil is room temp after you put your plant into a bigger pot you usually will notice the plant growing very fast after a few days.
    Plants love bigger pots .
I never once seen transplant shock after 100 thousand plants
If your lights are the same . Same temps . Same light schedule . You will not see transplant shock.
I think most growers say transplant shock where there plant is so root bound and having issues
They put it into the bigger container and the plant slowly has to establish it self growing bigger roots before growing ..
