Creationists/Theists are a plague.

Discussion in 'Religion, Beliefs and Spirituality' started by unicorn porn, Mar 20, 2016.

  1. Grow up, please. Logical thinking always leads to atheism. You can cry about the deceased all you want, just understand this is your basis for believing in imagination la la land. If you look at the world and want to give a god credit, you're pretty slow. You live in this bubble that your parents probably created. Your brain can believe anything it's taught by respected authority figures.

The bible is one big contradiction when you compare it to what 99% of the scientific community tells you. The catholic church is about as gross as Islam. One billion catholics can't be wrong. oh wait, there are 2 billion young earth christians.. one and a half billion muslims.. just stop. I'll expand on this later. In closing, for now, just remember that all of the great minds are in hell. lol

  2. the gays have a 6x higher suicide rate because of this shit. Mormons believe in alien jesus.. Jehovah's believe in some pretty sad things.. it's just.. why do we have to put up with these people? They must be smoking crack, not weed.

  3. 'Why do we have to put up with these people'?

Because everyone is free to believe whatever they want as long as they don't infringe upon the rights of others.

If theism is belief in God, atheist is non-belief in God.

So what is atheISM? A belief system about not believing in God? I'm not an a-santaclausist, I have no belief system about my non belief in santa, I just don't believe.

  4. I could rant about atheism too OP. I mean, is that really what you end up believing, in a non belief of something? How about you continue searching for truth and see where that leads. Read the Tao te Ching man.

However I agree that it is awful that so many people are believe in dogma. It's backwards, we as a people should be over this and move forward. However free will LOL

  5. First, logic doesn't always lead to Atheism.
Second, Atheism has become its' own form of religion.
Third, most people who do not believe in a creator or god do not identify as Atheists.
Fourth, OP you are one condescending mother fucker, and for no apparent reason.
Fifth, there is no proof of correlation that homosexuals have a higher suicide rate due to any religion you mention. So much for your logical thinking.
Sixth, lol at all of this unibomber manifesto.
Seventh, this is why I <3 GC.

  6. The problem is that moderates of all faiths are committed to reinterpreting or ignoring outright the most dangerous and absurd parts of their scripture, and this commitment is precisely what makes them moderates. But it also requires some degree of intellectual dishonesty because moderates can't acknowledge that their moderation comes from outside the faith. The doors leading out of scriptural literalism simply do not open from the inside.

In the 21st century, the moderate's commitment to rationality, human rights, gender equality, and every other modern value, values that are potentially universal for human beings, comes from the last 1000 years of human progress, much of which was accomplished in spite of religion, not because of it. So when moderates claim to find their modern ethical commitments within scripture, it looks like an exercise in self-deception. The truth is that most of our modern values are antithetical to the specific teachings of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. And where we do find these values expressed in our holy books, they are almost never best expressed there. Moderates seem unwilling to grapple with the fact that all scriptures contain an extraordinary amount of stupidity and barbarism, that can always be rediscovered and made wholly anew by fundamentalists, and there's no principle of moderation internal to the faith that prevents this.

These fundamentalist readings are, almost by definition, more complete and consistent, and therefore more honest. The fundamentalist picks up the book and says, "Ok, I'm just going to read every word of this and do my best to understand what god wants from me - I'll leave my personal biases completely out of it." Conversely, every moderate seems to believe that his interpretation and selective reading of scripture is more accurate than god's literal words.

  7. Thank the alchemists, hermeticists, and deists of the enlightenment period for the transition away from fundamentalism.

If only religious people read the works of such people.

  8. As an atheist myself, I understand your frustrations. However, years ago I came to a vital conclusion, based upon some deep inward reflection and quite a few thoughtful discussions with close friends and even a couple of total strangers that became friends. Mind you, this was not something that happened overnight. It was a gradual process of self-evolution, spanning nearly a year and slowly shaping my outlook, similar to how gentle waves can smooth a rocky shoreline.

The conclusion: Imposing my will upon others, especially by means of lashing out and bitter attempts to insult, was no better than the actions of those I was lashing out against. When you lead with anger or insults, you will only attract the angry and insulted, which eliminates your chances of ever having an actual discussion and often only results in a maniacal shouting match which leaves you more angry or frustrated than you initially were. It's a vicious cycle. Once I realized this and shifted the tact in my opening demeanor and dialogue, I started receiving thoughtful and rational responses, leading to thoughtful and rational discussions. It was then that my goals and motives for starting the conversations shifted from "I'm going to show you that you're WRONG!" to "I want to understand your position and hope we can both take something away from this". That's when the waves of change started within myself and I actually started accepting the fact that respect for others, no matter my opinions of their views, opens doors to peace and understanding. The ending result was the ability to not just live and let live; but to live, love and learn.

This has resulted in a much more fulfilling existence; an existence of compassion, peace and understanding - towards myself and those around me.

Again, I have no desire to change your position, nor am I saying you're wrong. I decided to respond because I saw a bit of my younger self in your post and thought I'd chime in with some anecdotal advice with hopes of sparing you from the heartaches and frustrations of my own past.

    Take care,
    Z

  10. Hey, thanks!

  11. That is the mentality both sides needs, and we would all get along just fine.

As a theist of sorts, there is very little difference between our outlook and mentality

  13. Doesn't the bible say god created the sun on the third day or something. You can't have days without a sun. Just sayin

  14. Yea I forget which day.

There are probably a few arguments, one that I am aware of, that a day on earth has nothing to do with the Sun, its the rotstion of the earth about its axis.

That begs other questions too though.

  15. No, the bible says no such thing.

  20. There's a lot to suicide. You made a claim. I asked you to show proof of that claim. It appears that you can't show proof of that claim.
