Creating My Own Soil :)

  1. Hey guys. Am new. I've been on the hunt for any forum that has a good number of knowledgeable people.

I'm in the process of creating my own repeatable (precise) organic soil with my own proprietary blend of ingredients. First, I started off with sterile ingredients like wood dust and chips mixed with some sand. Currently, I'm in the process of adding specific food waste (egg shells, bananas, coffee grounds, maybe some over-ripe fruit) into a a 30 gallon pot of this mixture. I don't really measure out the added food waste because I just throw it in and turn the soil as I cook eggs or make coffee, etc.

I've also learned about adding a very small amount of vegetable fats (olive, canola, coconut) because that increases water retention, especially in a sandy wood matter soil like I'm working with.

I keep close tabs on the soil by sniffing it for any scent of mold or fermentation (don't want that), watching it for mold growth on the top and plucking that off, as well as turning it daily and breaking it apart. The good news is that I have been seeing bio-masses of soil starting to form that smell sweet and clean.

All of that said, I think I'm creating a very healthy, fertile soil mixture that I will be able to use for a future organic and licensed farm.

So, my questions are as follows:

What is your experience with the creation and cultivation of soil? Did you run into any problems with adding organic compost to the soil material? What kind of issues did you experience while you were cultivating the soil?

  2. MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION:

What are the risks of adding cannabis compost and waste (trim, plant stalks, and maybe some cannabis ash to sweeten the soil it if need be) to the soil?

  4. Absolutely. I don't plan to use this soil until next spring.

  5. Oil and soil don’t mix.

Take @vostok s advice and visit the subforum he linked to you.

This will save you a ton of heartache and lost time.
