I recently put up my xbox 360 on craigslist for $200 hoping to find someone local to pick it up. I got an email from a guy saying he wants to buy it for his client in Africa. He said he will give me $350 if I can mail it to Africa. I said I wouldn't do it in case it was a scam. He said he will give me the money right now through paypal and I can mail it whenever I get the cash. Does this sound legit? If I have him send me the money through paypal and then I transfer it to my bank account, is there any way he can take it back?
lol, don't do it. This is a classic scam, its actually pretty old. I'm suprised they still use that particular email.
I sold a camera on craigslist about a week ago, but haven't taken the ad down. Here is what I got this morning:
I was about 99% sure this one was fake What would happen if I let him tranfer me the money and just do nothing?
lol, I don't know...but I wouldn't get involved. I know it sounds simple enough to just take the money, but I'm sure if you did that they could find ways of getting the money back.
You would get some amusing emails. There is a whole community of people online that make it a hobby to mess with these guys, using as much of the scammers' time and resources as possible, even getting THEM to ship YOU stuff. By doing this we take away time and money they could be spending on more gullible people...
Because they don't actually give you the money first. They abuse slow systems. They'll send out something that says it has much more monetary worth in it than it actually does (i.e. writing a hot check). Then you think you have the money for however long, ship your product in that time, and come back to realize it was hot and no money is going to you. Although Paypal is said to have insurance for things that are 200 dollars or less. But I don't know how that works. Maybe you could scam Pay Pal while the scammers are scammin' you?
Because if he transfers the money from the paypal into his bank account, this could be an easy way of them finding out all his information. Who knows they could already have something on HIS computer and just need him to log into his accounts... Bad idea, just stick to selling it local or on ebay man! Best of luck to you EDIT: On second though, just agree and send them a box with newspaper in it, if they actually get back to you and you do have the money, send the xbox. hahah
Your wrong, have you ever used paypal? And if you talking about a keylogger i doubt he is dumb enough to accpect then open a file from him,
I know there is nothing installed on my computer from this guy. And how exactly would they see all my information? Paypal is a secure website. They wouldn't give him my bank info
Just remember that these guys know the world of online payments better than you do. They get people's money because people are convinced they are getting paid. I would either just fuck with him or don't reply at all. There is a 0.00001% possibility that he is actually interested in your Xbox.
There are things called 'hackers' and 'scammers' that's all they do with their lives, I'm pretty sure they're able to get into a lot of peoples computers. Most people do not realize how easy it is. Just trying to help out man. EDIT: The post before me just confirms what I said
