Couple of questions!

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by whammy, Jan 29, 2019.

  1. Hello all, new to this! First legal canadian grow :)

First, about watering with organics, i'm using gaia green amendments , promix peat, worm castings, 5gallon fabric bags.. Do organics require runoff water? I have been just giving them a litre every watering, and they are soaked and dripping. I know runoff benefits non-organic grows, by removing salts or whatever! Do i need to? They seem fine!

Secondly , PH , they seem to be doing fine, but i ordered a PH meter and my water is 5.6ish, I've read 6.5-6.8 would be ideal , Should i be in a hurry to get PH up and down ?

day 22 flower ! hope that picture works

As far as watering to run off, do you have any perlite or other drainage material in your pots?
I know nothing about pH, but I always hear the hydro kids say to be sure and check calibration on a new pen. I have also heard to let the water sit at room temp for a while before you check.
There are quite a few blades here that have played the game with tricky water sources, I'm sure someone with personal experience will chime in.
    cheers

  3. When watering in Organics, The soil really takes care of it for you! If you water until run-off you will be overwatering for sure. I’ve found watering little amounts at a time, waiting 30-60 minutes and then watering again is the best way to make sure you’re not overdoing it. Sound like you’re on the right track!

To my knowledge no one here uses PH up/down, and the majority of us don’t have/use a PH meter. As said earlier, the soil takes care of it for you, well...if you take care of it! If you need to lower, citric acid is the go to. My water comes out of the tap 7.2ish so I can’t comment on raising PH organically...

    Looks happy!

  4. Thanks for the response :) I didnt add perlite, I found a good deal on HP promix, it had a bunch in! Since then I have found the local hydro-shops and will get some from them, instead of the miracle grow stuff i skipped at lowes & canadian tire, I will pick up a bag for the next run! Definitely something I wanted to change I didnt realise everyone used so much!

  5. No worries. The only reason I asked is with a new mix, with 33-50% perlite, you will see a little more run off in the beginning of the run. With the fabric pots, a sweet step up is to put a 2" or deeper layer of perlite in a saucer under the pot, and allow the small amount of run off to wick back up. This set up also helps keep the outside of the fabric pots more moist. There is thread here in the organic section called sips (self irrigating planters) or swicks, I can't remember which, but it is worth a read if you get a chance.
cheers and congrats on first legal grow
