Could the seeds have died?

Discussion in 'First-Time Cannabis Growers' started by captainplanet, Sep 27, 2006.

  1. I germinated my seeds under a floro using the ziploc/wet paper towel method and several of the seeds sprouted but a little more than half of them, still will not, its been 4 days since the last of the seeds that actually sprouted did so, and it seems that none of the other seeds will sprout. I know they were alive in the beginning because i bought them from dr chronic online, but now my consern is that because i changed the environment of the seeds that have not sprouted to a much warmer climate, could i have killed them? Another thing that happened is that i acidently got some soil on the wet paper towel, but i dont think that should matter because theres not much of it, and they are going into it anyway. Please help, it will be much appreciated.

  2. Just plant and consentrate on the seeds that did sprout.....

Leave the ones that didn't in the wet towel and check them every day, they still might sprout???

The plant is in the most delicate stage when sprouting and seedling. Much care must be taken the handling the new sprouts, but as for the seeds - you may have just got a bad batch?
Use distilled water to wet the towel next time.

You can tell if a seed is good or not by colour and pinching it. It should be fairly dark in colour sometimes with spots. and should be hard between the fingers.

  3. okay so i got new paper towels, wetted them with rain water and placed them back in the old, cooler environment. But I still have the question of whether u can actually kill the seed during germination before its sprouted through heat stress and quick changes of environment, or are they only this vonerable when they "hatch."

  4. Give them a week before you give up on them.

But not all seeds are viable. Even amongst the seeds I have pollinated myself, there are always some duds.

  5. another consern.... one of my plants has just sprouted, and one of its cotyledon leaves is lime green in color, where the other one is a nice, rich green. is this cause for consern, if so whats happening, or is this normal when the sprout first appears

  6. It can be lack or to much water or the pH of the soil isn't right. Water it with ph ajusted water or rain water and it should be fine....

DOn't fuss over every little thing with your plant.
With the correct conditions pot will just grow it self, the biggest mistake new growers make is fuss over the plants too much, once they are planted - just water them and leave them be !

The sprout i thought was surley going to die , ended up bouncing back and is now one of the strongest plants.
