Ok, so for a while now I've been planning on hydro growing a few plants. My only set back is the cost, can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much everything will cost? Sorry if this question sounds stupid, I know little to nothin about growing
Your best bet is to head down to your local hydro shop and check out the prices for everything. They should be able to answer your questions in a hands on way where you can see everything they're talking about. I know I learn better that way. Is this your first grow? Or are you just switching to hydro?
Hold your horses. Use the Hydro Stores as second source of references. You have here in GC more than enough journals and threads to assist you in your ventures. IOW, get educated in the basics here and when you talk to the 'Hydro' Salesman, you will have a clear idea of what it is he talking about. That my friend will save you hundreds in unnecessary shit they will try to sell to you. I don't blame them, that is their job in order to make a living. However; this little knowledge will save you in the long run.
That depends on your hydro shop. The one I go to never pushed anything on me. They've actually given me quite a few freebies (like 10 smart pots, a mantis egg sac, a pack of gloves, some free quano...great people). Either way, I'm not saying to buy everything they recommend. I'm saying to go down, take a look around, ask some questions, etc. Then double check the forums before you actually buy anything.
Growing in soil is cheaper and easier! Those hydro boys are always moaning and groaning over their Ph and root rot problems!
I agree with you ! About the shops is a 50/50%, Coin Flip. However in this economy that flip is more in favor towards the 'PUSHERs' rather than 'HONEST' ones
You are absolutely right Stormy ! However; growing 'Hydroponically' for me more love to the Science of the absence of soil. Is kind of cool, nevertheless. Also I think it shouldn't be expensive as most people try to make it seems.
I go hydro simply because it is easier for me to get rid of 30 gallons of water discretely than it is to get rid of that much soil
LOL that's an interesting way to think of it. I'm an organic grower, so I just reuse my soil. It gets better every time. Two totally different worlds there....
