Coots mix, 2 cups or 6?

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by BudHarrington, May 27, 2020.

  1. I'm curious why the K.I.S. Coot mix recommends 2 cups (premixed nutrients + minerals) and the Buildasoil Coot mix recommends 2 cups of nutrients in addition to 4 cups of minerals, 6 cups total, per cubic foot?

BuildASoil Complete Soil Building Kit - Coot Approved

That's quite a difference. Is one of these websites wrong or does K.I.S. have triple concentrated inputs? The whole reason anyone would buy a kit is to have a standardized product/reference point and now I'm more confused than ever. All I know is K.I.S. is recommending 1/3 the inputs as Buildasoil for the same volume of soil.

  2. doesnt sound like kiss add enough.. and bas is now endorsed by coot

  3. It's probably the same mix just KIS recommends using less of it. Personally I think its better to just source all the ingredients yourself and save tons of money.

  5. My bet is it’s the 4 cups per cf of rock dust. MoFo (BAS) like a heavy mineral mix. Jeremy (KIS) uses less. I prefer 1-2 cups basalt per cf.

  6. Hey Ficky!
Yeah, tried the 4 cups+ .... once. I use Azomite now and usually at 1cup/cf.

IME, more than 2cups/cf of minerals is just overkill and really gets sludgey.

  7. Jeremy is BAS. Tad is KIS. I go with 1 cup per cf too.

  8. Thanks for the correction, brother. I can’t keep those 2 straight. I’m sure the hash wake and bake didn’t help.

  12. Coots are medium-sized water birds that are members of the rail family, Rallidae. They constitute the genus Fulica, the name being the Latin term for "coot".[1] Coots have predominantly black plumage, and—unlike many rails—they are usually easy to see, often swimming in open water.

  13. Thanks everyone, I guess my question several months from now will be how often/heavy to reamend the minerals when recycling the mix? Obviously it depends on what you put in initially.

I plan on doing this in the long run, but unfortunately I'll have to copy someones recipe, as far as quantities go, I'm flying blind on that. I've got a lot of things on my mind and trying to remember "a cup of this, a half cup of that" is something I'll gladly support a supplier to do for me, for now ;)

I'll have to check it out, I recently heard him on a podcast and I like his style. He mentioned putting a book (about mushrooms I believe) in PDF format so he doesn't have to charge for the info.

I've heard Jeremy talk also and he seems to be on top of things. The thing about K.I.S. that really threw me off was they sent me a 3.5cuft pack when I ordered a 10cuft kit, so I was looking at a third of a third of what Buildasoil sends out, thought I was losing my mind but they sent the rest plus a little extra after contacting them. Maybe it's just the fancy feedstore packaging Buildasoil uses but I'm leaning towards sticking with them for amendments AND recommendations.

  14. There’s about 8 million better options. Here’s one. This is where BAS gets most of their stuff from. Repacked with an inflated price.https://concentratesnw.com/

  15. It’s funny how both products have good reviews yet one is only a third of the fertilizers. Seems like the logical thing to do, sans buying individual ingredients from a local struggling business, would be to try the cheaper priced product. But hey let’s get Jeremy another boat.
