yo misc , hows life in the stratosphere? has your double application worked out?, had any stragglers pop up trying to rebuild the population? what mix u runnin, i bumped mine up too 8ml a gal mixed in dunk water and i "think" their all dead. but i aint carvin that in stone as fact just yet.
I've done a total of 3 applications now and there is not a single gnat in my tent! I did 8ml per gallon each time
excellent news, thanks man, damn glad to see we both used the same 8ml, i was a bit nervous about jumpin the dose after the great neem oil disaster of 2011
Just hit my grow with 8ml/gal gognats mixture. Thanks for the info guys. I had noticed some coming back after the dunks.
Well. I ended up with gnats as well. I bought some mosquito cakes and broke them up into chunks. I through them on the top and watered the plant. I put about 1 inch of sand down on top of that after i watered, and I now have sticky fly paper hanging in the tent. Lets see what happens.
the little bastards came right back ... again, so i did the crush and sprinkle thesage3 method. all seems well in the veg room, and numbers have dropped significantly in the bloom room.
After gognats? or the dunks....dunks didnt do shit and I crumbled up 2 full dunks for each pot just to give you an idea of how much I used....
after almost 2 full bottles of gognats. great at controlling them, but they have always reappeared very quickly. even after multiple applications. the dunks: i broke 5 of em up, stuck em in few freezer bags and beat the shit out of em with a hammer, really broke down the particle size. sprinkled 1 reg. spoonful in each 1 gallon veggers, and 2 big spoonfuls for each of the 6 buckets in bloom. i did the veg room 1st a few days ago, did bloom after i seen no weird shit was goin on with the little ones. ill update in a few days as the problem has still not entirely vanished in bloom.
thats odd man, how often were you applying it? and at what dose? are you thoroughly drenching the entire pots....they may be coming from somewhere youre unaware of...do you have sticky traps down in each of the pots to catch the adults?
i mix 8ml per gal, have gone as high as 12ml. i then funnel this mix into 2 / 2ltr bottles with holes drilled in the lid and hand water this mix, which really pisses me off cause i didnt build a auto-watering system to be hand watering all the fuckin time (sorry, i needed to get that out)
make sure youre really drenching the entire pot so there is no way you could have missed any, and if theres no run off then add more until you start getting a good amount of run off so you know the entire pot and all the medium has been drenched....worked perfectly for me, and my outbreak was insanely bad.
i will give them a 1 gallon per bucket drench in a day or 2 if the dunks dont finish em off. oh, and i got sticky traps in each bucket, they need replaced so ill do it the same day as the go-gnats
I can vouch for simply putting a thick layer of sand on top and letting the coco dry between waterings. I had a bad infestsation and found this is a lot cheaper than most other methods. And very effective!
I hung a fly tape from the side of the light near the plant, used a mosquito dunk and crumbled it up followed by a watering so it got into the soil of the plant, and then applied a layer of sand across the top. Dead gnats!
Check your sticky traps and make sure you have Fungus Gnats and not Winged Root Aphids. Common mistake for people to make. I couldnt figure out why my Fungus Gnats were not going away, turned out they were winged aphids..They look very similar on the sticky traps. The Fungus gnats have a small round heat and a long body, where the winged aphids have a fat round body with 2 "tail pipes" coming out its backside.. Root Aphids are much harder to deal with, but nothing Bayer Fruit & Vegetable cant handle..
I use Azamax and mix 15ml in a gallon and put that in a spray bottle. I then spray all roots, hydroton, tubs, and put a lil in the rez. Doing this along with frequent water changes is the key. It will take a couple changes and spray downs. Also when you change your water, use bleach or window cleaner with ammonia and clean the fuck out of everything real good include in and outside your tote, air hose, air stones, etc... and then let it dry real good. This will take care of the problem and not just the symptoms. These chemical treatments only work if the chemical comes in contact with the flies and their larvae and it is very unlikely you will accomplish that only adding to your rez, or by only spraying once. Also they come in from outside and got in your grow somehow to begin with so how would any solution prevent their return other than just keeping the area clean and preventative maintenance.
Also been having gnat issues and apparently they are attracted to apple cider vinegar, leaving a few containers with apple cider vinegar at the bottom around some plants. Will post back if it works well.
Those are merely traps. The maggots are on your roots. That is the real issue here, not pesky annoyance but they are actually feeding off your plant, not good. I would do a little better than just trapping adults that fly.
Finding the source where they enter the house and fixing the problem always work. I had this problem once and was a leaking drain pipe and the area was infested with gnats. Once cleaned thorough with bleach, dried out and all cracks they enter from never had a major problem afterwards. Seems they thrive on high humidity and damp areas.... As for using sticky pads think it's the color yellow they are attracted too. I have used the dunks but, think hydrogen peroxide works well to kill the eggs and as a plus helps oxygenate the roots... I think it is a good idea to put a layer of sand on the surface after you treat as it cuts them little bugers up when they try to burrow in the medium. Never done that myself as it seems a pain in the arse...
