Consumeralism

  1. Why do we need all these products to make us happy, when cannabis always puts a smile on our face?

  5. [Answer I most believe you're looking for] I started this thread, because I'm in the process of minimalizing my life. I realize that when I'm high, I'm happier than anytime I ever was with these things I used to hold onto.

  6. Lol @ consumeralism...Googled it to make sure it's consumerism

Anyway, I agree that stuff gets in the way of enjoying your time. However, weed doesn't always make it better...it's great, but not all the time for me.

I do believe there will be a shift in the way of life for most...and a large part of it is doing with less stuff. I for one love reusing, buying old goods, QUALITY goods. I will wear pants for 4 years, THEN finally use them for outdoor nitty gritty work. There's a certain respect that comes with caring for stuff if you truly believe it is there to serve you.

  7. We live in a disposable culture, something's broken, don't try to fix it just buy the newer, more impressive, more expensive one! My mother saved the dishpan we used to wash dishes in when I was a kid and used it for a dog water bowl. I think that thing stuck around for 30 years, I'm sure she didn't pay over 2 bucks for it. Consumerism is how we've been brought up. Our parents wanted us to have better lives than they did and we want that for our own children so we throw money around. Easiest way to get somebody to like you, buying them stuff. Like we don't have enough. I've got to go through my stuff now, gawd.

  8. I'm guessing you mean consumerism. It's pretty simple, the more we have, we more we want, this globalistic society in which we're brought up in induces that kind of behaviour. Compare a millionare with a homeless person, the millionare wants this, that and more, while all the homeless person wants is a stable life. We are never grateful for what we have and instead of apreciating it, we just become more greedy and want more and more.

This capitalist philosophy has brainwashed us, we keep on thinking that if we purchase a certain product we'll finally be happy, yet we end up feeling the same (after and short period of time) and instead have our eyes set on another product which might make us happier, yet it's the same shit again, we end up wasting money for false momentary happiness. It's a vicious cycle.

  9. Because the man who sold us the world said no takesy backsies. But we got a receipt so it's all good.

  10. Consumerism is why socialism wouldn't work, consumerism is what makes us feel free, we can buy whatever is wanted and everything we buy makes us think we're more free until you put down the credit card and realize youre in a shit ton of debt and not free at all

  11. Just something conditioned in you from every direction at every turn in western civilisation. Money = happiness. People dont say it out loud, but its everywhere. why cant rich people enjoy anything but rich things? thats an interesting question. Surely there is tons of awesome, fun things that you can buy for little or no money, but i think youll find the rich can only enjoy something they paid a lot for, because its worth them enjoying it. Just something to think about
