Constructive critcism needed...

  1. So I am doing a "dry run" before I get my good seeds in for my first grow, so I decided to germinate some bagseed, which went very well, all germinated easily. Now it has been a week, six of seven are growing, they are about 3 inches tall, working on their 2nd set of leaves...

They have purplish stems that are really really thin though....

I put them in fox farm ocean forest soil, and they are sitting under four 20w 6500k floro's 24/7...

Haven't put a circ fan in the closet yet...

anyone think I should do it differently with my good seeds in a week?

    Any comments are appreciated...

  2. 18/6 Will work just fine, I clone and veg under 18/6. Unless it gets cold with lights off. Is there any fresh air? You mentioned circulation fan, what about exhaust (if its not sealed air will be pulled from cracks, so no in needed). If you add some exhaust like 2" to a PC fan and run it out of the closest to circulate air that could work for you.

  3. The purplish stem is normal, as the plant grow you will see that outer layer split as the stem get larger. If i can get a decent pic with my camera ill post it. I think a little air flow would not hurt anything. just dont blow your seedlings over. Its hard to help without pictures, you might want to try moving the light close to the seedlings, maybe they are stretching for the light.

  4. It isn't sealed yet, I have a computer fan on order along with some mylar, I'll install that by Tuesday night.

I'll also put up some pics tomorrow night, I took some with my phone but they suck so no point in posting them. Need my better cam.

I have never had the lights more than 6 inches away, but my fear was they were stretching.

Was wondering if a light around 3000k would be better than the 6500k...also was wondering if putting the in fox farm right after germ was overkill.

I plan on practicing topping and fimming with half and making bonzia ma's/pa's with the other half....

I figure I can start my good seeds about 3-4 week behind these....... get my feet wet and make/correct some mistakes ahead of time....

  6. Those lights have a really minimal casting range, and are only good for young seedlings. Once the plants are a few inches tall the light 3"-4" from the bulbs won't be strong enough to encourage growth. Keep the bulbs you do have as close to the tops of the plants as you can. I'm talking like within 1".

I'd suggest CFL bulbs over flouro lighting any day.

You will want a fan on those babies to strengthen the stems. This will help them grow nice and big having a strong vascular system in that big main stem.

Look in to LST and Scrog methods as well, I find them to be superior to fimming and topping.
