I have insomnia for the past 5 - 6 months and i've become a very light sleeper almost unbearable. I'm not the type to go to the doctors and get prescription for some pills with nasty side effects so ive always just tried to cope with my insomnia. I've decided to go for medical marijuana as i've smoked before and sleep fine without side effects.

I'm about to go to my primary care doctor and tell her about my insomnia. I am wondering what I do so that she writes that i have insomnia then faxes it to a medical marijuana clinic for proof that i have insomnia? I've never had any health issues except sleeping problems so i've never said anything so i dont know how to go about telling her my problem and getting her to fax it to another office.
Or if I could just get a copy of my medical records to give to the MMJ doctor in person, that'd be fine too

I dont want to just go in and tell her i have insomnia and say i dont want pills so could you fax this to a medical marijuana clinic so i can get some marijuana...unless thats how its usually done o_O

Edit: Also If i go to a MMJ doctor, Is there a co-pay?
If there is, do I still pay the co-pay before the recommendation whether I get the rec or not?

Just make a appointment with your primary about your insomnia. Discuss. Most likely the dr. will prescribe you something, it's up to you if you to want to follow up with taking it or not.

Before the end of the visit check with the nurse for your copy of the health summary with your diagnosed condition and directions. Or maybe log on to your health manager via your hospital website and print out your visit details.

It all depends on the marijuana medical dr if they need any health records. Mine did not. I had them all ready to go. All i needed was my ID and $60.00 first time patient fee. Check with the marijuana dr receptionist prior to your appointment if its even necessary to bring in medical records. You might not even need to go thru all that with your primary. I'm sure you will be fine. It's very simple and not as difficult as you may think.

Don't even mention marijuana anything to your primary.

No co pay involved=since insurance does not cover this type of visit.

You will be charged a new patient visit fee after the visit and that covers paperwork and registration card.

Don't fax anything just bring it in. (if you have to)

  3. so should i just go to the MMJ doctor without papers and tell them i have insomnia?
I dont want the doctor to think im just faking it

  4. no i dont think you will get it without going to your primary first. The doctor asked me about it and I said it was something onset and then asked if I had been diagnosed, if i didnt have other symptoms I dont think I would have been recomended

  5. You don't have the primary care Dr fax the MMJ Dr. You visit your regular Dr and explain the problems you've been having sleeping. She will document the insomnia, and probably ask if you've tried over the counter meds. Tell her they don't work for you, and she will probably prescribe something to you. Then you ask the front office for a copy of your medical records. They may charge you $20 for the copies. Then take those papers and any prescriptions you get with you to the MMJ DR and you should be good to go.

  6. Please review the "do you qualify" sticky thread and if you still have questions ask in there.

    Thanks
