Confused about feeding

  1. i want to be ready when it comes to feeding in veg state but i've been looking around online and confused. some people feed during the 1st/2nd of leaves others are feeding later on like 3rd-4th set.

When should i start to feed?

What is a good brand to feed and what would be best to feed? i've see some at like 8-4-4, 4-2-2 for veg state.

I HAVE NO prior experience when it comes to fertilizing in general i usually try to grow things such as tomatoes and just plant and water. could i get some links/videos for someone new to understand fertilizing better. Thank you.

we do have some bloom fertilizer by bio thrive which is 2-4-4

  2. everyone needs to know details about what you're growing in, what brands of stuff you have, plants, lighting, indoor/outdoor, etc...

    more details the better.

    welcome to the party!

  3. Medium - Fox Farm Ocean Forest
    Pot size- 5 gallons
    Plants- 1 ( unknown strain )
Lighting - Outdoors about 12 hours of light per day

it is still a small seedling but if it gets to that point i need to fertilize i want to be ready. it was stunted since it's 2 weeks old now and very little growth over the 2 weeks. used to have it indoors 18/6 and CFL 26W 6400k on it but had many issues with growing it indoors so i tried moving it outdoors and seems to be doing way better.

  4. Generally fertilizing those numbers are NPK values. Veg state generally has higher amounts of N-Nitrogen while bloom or flowering has more amounts of P-Phosphorus and K-Potassium. There are many brands out there but it truly depends on your budget, what soil or media you use etc.

  5. i was thinking of using fox farm Grow big which is 6-4-4 would you recommend? or what brands would you recommend?

i was also thinking BioThrive Grow which is 4-3-3 since we already have the bloom formula so i wouldn't have to swap brands or buy another bloom fertilizer

  6. From seed soil should be able to feed the plant for up to three weeks. Both of those are good to use to be honest.

  7. what do you meant "up to 3 weeks?" like the soil will feed it? or i am able to start feeding it after 3 weeks? it was previously stunted or something and just started growing again but it's 2 weeks old right now

  8. Generally when you buy soil, it has enough nutrients in it to feed your plants for three weeks depending on the soil. The soil bag may sometimes even tell you how long you can water it before you need to start fertilizing and feeding nutrients to the soil. From there on you can fill a jug with fertilizer and use it to feed your plants and another jug of good pH water as well. After three or four feedings to the plant with the nutrients jug, do the next 1 or 2 feedings with the straight water to help you from spending too much on bottle nutrients. Other growers have other feeding techniques as well but this is something you could try.

  9. When you need to start adding fertilisers depends on the amount of nutrients in your soil, concentration and volume, as well as the speed of the plant's growth. But a good rule of thumb is when the plant's leaves have reached out past the rim of the pot then it's time to either transplant to a larger pot or add fertiliser

My preferred vegging fertiliser is 3-1-5, and I've been using it for several years without any problems. Start with a low dose like 30% of the full concentration and work up to about 50%. Adding fertiliser to every watering you're unlikely to need to go much over 50% if at all
