Confused about AliBaba Lighting

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by jbinn, Jan 8, 2021.

  1. So I was looking at the SF4000 from Spider Farmer, it's listed at $600 and runs 450w @ 3.8A.
    So I went on Alibaba to find a cheaper counterpart, a Kingbrite 480w (4 panels, same idea) for $350 shipped and they are telling me it requires 10a to run?! Last I checked 480w / 120v = 4A so why is the alibaba lights 2.5x more demanding in power? Is that why they are cheaper? efficiency? I know most grow rooms in houses are a max of 25A so you could only do (2) of their 480w lights on that electrical setup versus SF4000 where you could do 4-5 lights on the same power grid...

    am I missing something? or are these 480w really taking up 10 amps on a 120v electrical versus the 4 amps the SF4000 requires?? This is what CoCo from Kingbrite sent to me when I asked about amperage requirements:

    "1.480w:10A;600w:12.5A;
    2.the lighting kit size :480w:1.64ft*2.17ft;600w:3.1ft*1.28ft;
    3.fit for tent:480w: cover for 4*4 or 5*5ft tent;600w:cover for 5*5ft tent;"

  2. It depends on the driver. 10A sounds about right for four 288 boards in parallel on a constant voltage driver.

    So why does the SF4000 on SpiderFarmer says 3.8A @ 450w for the same 4 board light?

    this is the light im referring to:

    New Spider farmer SF4000 LED Grow Light With Dimmer Knob 2020 new version QB(Preorder for UK/USA/Canada)

    457w @ 120v, rated 3.8a. Same 4 panel light on alibaba is 480w @ 120v, rated 10a? What are they doing different? I wanted to run 2 480w lights on a 25a circuit in a 5' x 10' tent and do a SOG setup. but 1 light wont do notta.

    This is the light im lookin at that supposidly 10a @ 480w:

    2021 Newest Pre-assembled Kingbrite 480w Lm301h V3 Samsung Qb288 Led Grow Light Kit - Buy Kingbrite 480w,Led Grow Light,Led Grow Lamp Product on Alibaba.com

    I don't see any difference except one requires 4a and one requires 10a? They are both using the same driver as well. I really want to order 2 of these 480w on alibaba, but if the SF4000's are really that much better they require 1/2 the amps id spend the extra on those... Something doesnt add up including the math... 480w / 120v = 4a not 10.

  4. First, they are not the same panels. And like I said, it depends on the driver used and how the boards are wired. Series wiring uses more volts while parallel wiring would use more current.

    Spider farmer runs on two XLG-240-H, each is 4.9A.
    The kingbrite uses an HLG-600H-48 which is 12.5A

    So will 2 of those 480w Kingbrite LED's work on a 20A breaker?

  6. That's a good question. I believe the drivers that come with those panels have dimmers so you could dim them so they are under 20A, but I would contact kingbrite and ask before deciding.

  7. Yes. A 20amp can handle over 2000w. 1750 being typical &1250 being extra,extra safe or preventing the fuse from heating up.
    If you run 220/40v then it slightly reduced the wattage needed & cuts your amps in half.

  8. OP: you're barking up the wrong tree: the 10A mentioned here is the drivers 48V DC output. It should run around 4 amps on 120V AC or a little more. 2 should fit easily on a 20A line.
