Concerns using HPS for flowering

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by AliensWorkshop, Aug 11, 2008.

  1. Hi all, my friend picked up the latest issue of "skunk" magazine. And in it there was a big article on beginners and things they didnt know. Obviously the majority of us believe or have atleast been told that using HPS during the flowering stage is the BEST way to go. The guy who wrote this big article (sorry didnt catch his name), claimed that using an HPS bulb in flwr. is harmful and actually cuts down potency and flavor in the long run. This seemd very strange to me because the rest of the magazine was very informative and helful. But that one part of the article dosn't seem to go with what ive been told for so long. He went on to say that using a Metal Halide bulb in flowering will cause massive boosts in THC potencicy and flavor (but may cut down on bud size).

What is your guys's take on this?? Im starting to think a 400w innerchangable HPS & MH unit may not be the best way to go

Some people argue that the red spectrum the HPS puts out only affects the "growth" of the plant itself and not the potency of the THC. The red spectrum promotes growth, or in MJ's case a higher yielding (weight) plant. The MH bulb however provides the plants with UVB light which has been linked to increasing potency and trich production.... which is why they are saying Metal Halide is best for potency.... If you just add a UVB light to your HPS, it would produce way better results than any single MH.
