compresses compound vs soil?

  1. I was using scotts soil for my first seedlings and had good success, got some of that compressed stuff from hydro store and seedlings don't appear to be doing as good, is this compressed stuff good for seedlings or should I be adding something to it?

  2. I'm going to assume the compressed stuff your talking about is coco coir. In answer to your question yes, you will need to add something to the soil/medium because (if it IS) coco coir is a neutral medium. Meaning that it has 0% ferts and other things like that.

The seedlings SHOULD be doing better in the coir than scott's because for the first few weeks of it's life the plant does not need any outside nutes.
