When it comes to gardening I have little to none experience, I've grown tomatoes, corn, carrots, potatoes, those sorts of things...

Anyways, I had five plants dumped on me... I didn't deal with germination or anything, I just have these five babies. (Long story short, my friend decided that five plants was too much heat for him)

So these plants are mine, and only mine. I have these babies and two of them seem to be doing well, one seems to be getting burnt? (I believe that's the correct term) one is a stunted little guy, and another seems to just be withering over.

I've had them for two days and two nights now. I have them on a 18 6 cycle (It was fairly easy to get a bunch of indoor gear, in fact I believe the amount of stuff I have is overkill now) they are sitting in my closet under a 250W bulb (I was told its for Veg stage) and of course I have a fan in there for air flow/heat management.

    Here is the withered plant:

This one I'm the most worried about, I have no clue why this is happening I've been keeping all plants nice and wet. (Though I think I might be under watering them, I tend not to water so much that it all comes draining out the bottom of the pots they are in) since this I've put it up against a stick and loosely wrapped a twist tie around it. From my knowledge all I can really do is keep watering it and hope for the best.

Here is my second biggest worry, the edges of the leaves seem to be yellow on the edges this happened over night I believe. So I believe I caused this, though I am not certain how.

And my little guy, the stunted baby of the group. It seems to be showing signs of withering and burning in the leaves.

    And the whole group.

I apologize for the terrible quality, my blackberry seems to not really know how to grab a focal point.

Anyways, I have no clue if I'm under watering these guys or not. I don't know what sort of soil they are in, I have no clue what my water is like. (though I don't really want to get that technical with it, if they grow, great, if I get to harvest, even better, this is my first grow... Ever... It's not how I wanted to get started but I'm not going to turn down free plants)

We are close to winter of course, which is just a good and bad thing all at the same time. Seeing as we use more power in the winter I doubt that a sudden spike will be a big concern... Especially with just a 250 W bulb running.

I'm probably in over my head, but I figure there isn't much gained or lost. Also I believe these plants are started from seeds... That were found in bud (lol) so I am not holding my breath.

    Any help would be great!

EDIT/ With all of this said, I am taking this seriously I would love to grow and harvest... Even though it's such a late time to start.

Also I've been lurking here without an account for a while, so I have done a good amount of reading. But I'll still be asking plenty questions here. This whole grow will probably be based off of what knowledgeable strangers on the internet tell me. :)

  2. Let them dry out before you water them. they need a wet/dry cycle.

you can tell by the weight of the pot, if it's time to water.

keep the light as close as possible without it burning them. if it feels hot to your hand, the plants will not like it. warm is ok.

other wise they are not too bad looking.

  3. Yeah I've got the light about two and a half feet away, light feels warm to the back of my hand.

  4. Well first stop your watering. Your overwatering if your keeping your soil in a constant wet state. At that stage your seedling is using very little water since its small and it takes a while to naturally evaporate.

Use the pick up method as the above said. Pick it up its light time to water, heavy leave it alone..and let it dry out some between.

The issue your probably having with the 1st one is over watering. Keep at it and they will all just die one by one.

Your starting to get some stretch. You get that from the light being to high. They will continue to stretch then eventually just fall over. Put some more soil around the base and lower the light.

  5. Alright I'll hold off on watering see how that goes, I'll also lower the light to around 8-12 inches away.

    Thanks you two.

  6. NP overwatering and overnuting are the leading causes of deaths of peoples plants.

A example on the watering at least in my case. I have 4 seedlings a week old. I watered the soil before I planted my seeds...have not watered since. Theres no need.

A plants lively hood is water. There experts from extracting water from the soil.

  7. True enough eh?

Just checked out your LED grow thread.... I have to invest in one of those grow tents. It looks sweet!

Just an update, things seem to be going more smoothly.

  9. Your on your way buddy they look dramatically better now! Congrats

  10. Thanks again rhap! I probably would have killed them off if you didn't slap me straight.

I'm quite surprised that they all have gotten this far.

  11. Nice recovery, well done.

  12. Thanks Trap.

I've been told that these are Purple Kush plants... I'm not sure how true that is but never the less this is what I've been told.

Now when it comes to Purple Kush I'm trying to plan my grow accordingly. I'm not sure if I want to flower in my closet or making a separate flowing box that I can just put into my garage for that time

What I'm trying to find out is how tall do these plants get? And how much more do they grow out during flowering?

If I were to take a fire blanket :
Put velcro around the edges and used that to seal off the closet during flower, than ran all of my ventilation and smell things through holes I cut out would that work for smell?

Or would I be much better off just making/purchasing a "flowering box" the light that I'll be using is a 1000w MH :) I'm not sure on what to do with this one, the big concern is smell and noise. I'm not sure which direction to go. I also have a canfan to use but I'm not sure if I'll bother buying a can and maybe just make my own...

I know it's still early but its now my biggest concern now that I have a comfortable system for the plants.

Any advice/tips/help is of course greatly appreciated.

  13. A "flowering box" is nothing more then a grow tent. That would probably be best because you can do a entire grow in it hang your lights your filter/fan from it.

For blocking off a area from light Black plastic works well. Staple it to the wood. Duct tape comes in handy.

You can buy a grow tent cheaply off amazon.com.

The sound isnt much from a fan really and almost zero smell comes from the Carbon Filter. No one will smell a thing.

How tall do your plants get in flowering...well they can double triple or more. My OG Kush I have growing I flowered at 8 inches...one is 32 inches another 28 smallest is 26. So it grew 4x in flowering. How long you veg is up to you.

Wow it really beefed up huh...

And I never thought to check amazon... Just found a reasonable one for $80! Heh thanks for spelling it out again... And here I was thinking that grow tents are only items that can be bought if you have an extra $200 laying around.

Well I guess I just have to find one that will be big enough for five plants... I don't actually think I've read up on how much room each plant will need. From what I can tell not too much seems everyone flowers plants fairly close together. I'm guessing that 62-Inch x 36-Inch x 20-Inch will be just fine.

  15. Amazon is good for everything. I buy most of my nutes there, you can buy just about anything for cannabis cept the seed there. Either Amazon handles the inventory or a store sells on there. Either way no tax = win. They been screwing us for years so I gladly will pay no sales tax.

If your going to put a 1000w light in it make sure its not a small tent something like a 3x3x6 or 4x4x7 size. Those pump out alot of heat..massive amount actually.

Also MH is suited for veg not flowering. Flowering you need a HPS bulb in your light.

I think I'm getting the terms wrong then... Must be. Or I hope so.

3x3x6 I can work with 4x4x7 might be a bit too big. Would be nice if I could just slide it right into my closet. But I guess I can always just buy a smaller light another time.

So I transplanted these guys on a hunch... Like my pots? (No worries I drilled drainage holes) Left the little one because... It's the little one. Also I ran out of soil for now. I don't think the little one will mind for now.

EDIT/ These guys are growing rather slow, I don't know from Aug 28th till now I just get this feeling that they should be a bit more bushy/tall. I could be wrong though.

Anyone have experience with PK wish to comment on this?

Nice looking plants. I work with Purple Kush everyday at the dispensary warehouse I work at. It is probably the best performing strain when it comes to rooting clones. The purple kush clones root 2-3 days before the other strains. The purple strains are generally easier to grow in general.

Expect to have really thick stems, the final height is in the medium range, and you can get them to really bush out if your top them a few times in veg.

You should take clones from all of them before you put them in flower, and save the clones from the ones that turn out to be female. Then start a mom from a clone from your favorite one from your harvest, then you'll have your favorite PK all the time.

  19. Hmm so final height should be something like 2 feet or so?

Yea I'll be taking clones from them all once they all get a bit bigger and I can afford to get some rooting gel.

  20. 3 x 3 or 4x4 is actually quite larger then you think since its a square. Just measure it out on the ground.

1000w HPS in a closet...good luck with cooling that.
