communication and language

  1. mankinds oldest and still his greatest and most powerful invention
it can be used to convey ideas and concepts across centuries
and the power of a word in the right place can be staggering
think of the lives saved by the warning of an obstruction on the track there ,or of the imminent collision avoided by air traffic control...even up to the wars that were averted by the right words in the right place.
but like most of our devices its double edged
think of the ideas that should have been buried, the warnings that didnt get through.the wars that started because that message didnt arrive.people cut out of the loop at a crucial time.
and even worse because we are such an inventive race are the poisonous words.the wars that are deliberately started by misinformation.the race hate.the freedoms lost through political manoeverings.
    powerful things words
    life changing even
something to think about next time you hear your mrs gossiping on the phone lol

  2. language is who we are

  3. words are garbage

  4. Very true.

  5. double edged? think about it, positive, and negatives (electrical charges)

    like northandsouthpoles, someshit...

  6. Im all baked. ANd im thinkin about it, and words are like a game. WE say one thing the other has to respond etc. ANyone get what im sayin?

  7. words rarely convey what i mean to express.

imo its easier to communicate using body language/eye contact.

  8. certainly language and communication have helped to bring us together in some aspects, but the power of words with always pale in the comparison to the power of thought.

  9. I understand man. I understand.

  10. Jaron Lanier wrote an article in his monthly section of Discover, Jarons World, in the Feb. 2007 issue. It had to do with language evolution through metaphors. blew my mind a little bit.
