When the buds look how you want (use a 30~50x loop to look at the tricomb glands) and then just start cutting the plant down, i normaly take the whole plant, cut it off at the dirt and trim my skuff off, then i let them hang and dry.

 

I cut down the whole plant as well, hang to dry in my shed. I find chopping the whole plant makes for a slower dry. Some people cut off the branches and dry them individually, but it is easy to overdry in my climate - touch a bud and it crumbles to dust.
