College dorm contract (legal stuff)

Discussion in 'Cannabis Consumption Q&A & Tips' started by BigGuru, Dec 3, 2012.

  1. I apologize in advance for the length, perhaps pick just one question to answer...it would be much appreciated

So I was reading through the pages upon pages of shit I had to agree to to live in on campus housing (the college forces freshman to live on campus) and Im running across some troubling things but also possible loopholes

Combustables or dangerous items: Firearms, ammunition, fireworks, flammable paint, gasoline, and any other combustible items are not permitted in any residence hall or University Apartment. Flammable items are also considered as combustibles and may not be attached to any area that produces heat; this includes items suspended from or fastened flat against open light bulbs or heat sources in the rooms/apartments.

    1) does this include lighters?
    2) if yes, does the second part about not attaching them to areas that produce heat supersede the not permitted part
    3) if yes to 1 and no to 2, is "flammable items are also considered combustibles" close enough to "combustible items" for the first half of this to apply

Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia: Drug paraphernalia is not permitted in the residence halls. Storage of hookahs is not permitted in the residence halls or student rooms on campus

    1) is a PERFECTLY clean batty and/or grinder still drug paraphernalia if there is no traces of THC on them and no drugs of any sort are in my room (nor is there evidence there ever was drugs in the room)
    2) is a PERFECTLY clean water pipe/bong close enough to a "hookah" for it to be in violation?

    Thank you

  2. Basically they're saying "no bongs or lighters". I'd assume that they'd be pretty strict if they were banning lighters, and may even check if they are taking the time out of their hands for such small things as lighters

  3. well thats part of the problem...due to the wording im unsure if lighters are included. and there has been no active searching of any rooms thus far so im not sure how strict they actually are. im 1 semester in.

  4. smoke outside, keep papers, not bongs if you want to get an education, not county time

  5. I know that youre correct. However I purchased a bong (from GC I might add :D ) before I read this contract...i know i know

So now Im trying to convince myself through logical legal crap. guess its not going to pan out :(

  6. Get a cardboard box and send it to yourself through the postal service, once you get the box put your goodies in there. The college needs a warrant to search through mail so you should be all good.

  7. Wow those are some strict rules. Im not sure, but it seems like you can have a lighter. But not like a butane torch or something with a real flame that is capable for starting a huge fire.

A grinder is still considered drug paraphernalia as well as any glass piece.

  8. If it's not a tobacco-free campus I don't see why they would ban lighters.

But that bong is pretty blatantly against their rules. Same with the bat and grinder.

  9. its tobacco free dorms but not campus. so im assuming lighters are fine... unless they want you to store your lighters outside? haha

and yes i realize theyre against the rules but i was just curious if i could get around it. if not so be it.

and i was under the assumption bats waterpipes grinders ect were not paraphernalia unless they could be linked to drugs in some way (any way really, cops are douches). but the shit is spotless and theres nothing in my room. dont all 3 just become tobacco accessories?

  10. I don't see your RA or college police seeing your bong as a tobacco only glass piece IMO.

  11. Who the fuck is going to waste time busting you for a lighter. Keep the bong wrapped up in a towel in a bag and you'll be fine. Common sense over powers ignorance Everytime.

  12. If they're against hookah I don't see them being too lenient on any 'tobacco accessories' besides lighters and maybe pouch tobacco/papers.

Which brings me to another point - for j papers, keep them with a pouch of roll-your-own tobacco for an alibi.

  13. of course ive considered this. i plan to have some pipe tobacco. maybe even smoke tobacco out of it so theres proof i use it for that. again there will be no drugs ever in my room cuz i know my bongs worth more than getting caught.

it will be in a bag with a lock on it underneath other shit in my own personal closet. good enough hopefully?

  14. Bro i went to KU on track scholarship. The "room checks" the college does is them walking in to see if it's clean and that's it. No one ever searches the entire room. Yet can't legally go through closed and zipped bags and closed drawers or fridges of they are personal. My roommate was an RA.

  15. appreciate the confidence boost lol. i should be safe i just wanted to know if i was "technically" safe.

    peace and happy tokin

  16. Or how about.. just don't let them catch you?

  17. the real trouble is my roommate. ive identified several dramatic personality disorders he suffers from. makes him somewhat of a liability to me.

  18. This message has been deleted by CKTony. Reason: Too high

    ^ made my night lololol

  19. Wait so why is it illegal to keep a grinder in your room if they're just considered a cofee/herb grinder?

  20. this
maybe you should see how it is living there first and then decide if its safe enough to bring the bong
