Fairly new to the whole scene. Just recently purchased 1000w mh hps tent kit 48 x 48 x 80. I’ve got a heated vivosun propagation system. A heater with thermostat set at 80 wich keeps the tent around 75-80 degrees (currently not too worried about humidity since seeds are in propagation dome) I do have a a humidifier to keep levels in check when needed. Kinda just looking for feedback, input or advice on cold weather grows. Any input or advice is greatly appreciated. Love to look at grows as well and soak up as much info as possible. Will upload pics of setup/ nutrients and all the good it interested.
use the cold air to cool and use a timer on ventalation. youll be good im asuming the tent is not outside right lol. from sask there are three seasons summer winter and cold as f weather here lol. mh sould work nice for heat during the day at night if needed cause temp drop grab a small space heater put it in to help night temps warm up. youll be good.
Cold roots are your biggest issue as it'll slow them way down. Use a 2 inch thick piece of foam wall insulation on the floor of the tent to keep the roots from the chill. BNW
if your having problems with it throw in small oscilatin fan i do not use tent just a closet lol. but this one was grown in middle of winter season here. if u have to put tent in a cold spot like unheated garage then put a quilt or thick blanket over top itll help keep heat in i do that for winter camping. works like a charm. ps make sure its a good light weight blanket use two if you gotta.
Use space heater during day with lights off and have the lights on at am nightime cold hours to utilize the heat from the lights. For my photos i run lights on 1am to 1pm then lights off 1pm to 1am and use a space heater in the garage area where tents are set up from the 1pm to 1am hours. I have a steady 75 degress in tents with lufhrs on and 71 degress with lights off, and the space heater helps with the humidity during lights off. I have 3 grow tents going in my garage . Nightime temps get to 55 to 60 degrees in garage and tents if no heater or grow lights are on. Im sure you will have colder weather than me being in california , but if its colder just use more space heaters during lights off.
I don't think you don't want your plants to get cold or experience wide temperature fluctuations between dark and light cycles while they are in veg. Remember: your plant thinks veg time is springtime or summer. Cold weather and temperature swings are experienced during the fall, so this confuses (read: stresses) the plants. Cannabis blooms in the fall, so it probably shouldn't stress your plants if they experience cooler temps during this stage.
l. Lol well said. it’s beginning to be cold as f winter here and I’ve got the tent in my basement. Heat gets pumped directly outside. Only reason for mh and hps bulb purchase was to fight the heat without always having to use a space heater.
Insulation is key. Get some kind of foam insulation for the floor like BrassNwood said. Insulating the walls wouldn't hurt either. The cheap and easy way is to use extra blankets you have lying around the house. Sleeping bags are great too. Run your lights 24/0 during veg. That way the light acts as your heater. Run your fan as slow as you can. If you still can't keep temps high enough then you can recirculate the air instead of bringing in new fresh air every time. The problem with that is you usually need to add co2 because the plants will eventually use it all up.
Thanks for the info! Great looking plants btw. I’m on day 3 of germination for 5 seeds and I’m starting to see a tap root(only on 2 though) . I’m also on day 1 of germination for 10 seeds( cup method) Only reason for so many germinated seeds was have about 200 or so bag seeds that I’m unsure of so wich ever ones look better I’ll stick with those lol.
Would you be concerned of smell during flowering when pumping the heat inside? I have a carbon scrubber. Also just curious I’ve heard lower the surrounding temp to create more humidity inside tent? Being that I have humidifier I’m not to worried about that just a thought I guess.
lol i grow my own seed now they usually take three day in night at 27 c in paper towel if u ever use this meathod get a dome as paper towel can dry over night and will kill seed. should be getting tap roots soon here man. good luck. happy growings.
smell is a biggy know few pple who run carbons and still experience smell so ull proly be able to smell but you can use carbon bags on wall or keep temp little warmer about 80 f dont go above 82 f for smell control aswell but when night hits and it starts to cool smell will be like a frieght train doing this though can make less flavour of weed by lowering terps levels and can cause heat stress if not looked after on a good level. to help keep plants cool use cooler water when watering

The carbon filter helps a lot but It could be smelly during the end of flowering. If that happens you could put an odor control block/gel in the basement to get rid of it. They work really well.
how long they usually last i only ask cause ive never had to worry bout smell so dont have any good reviews on carbons just hear say. but id like to know more bout them any one feel free to answer.
This is going to be my first grow using one so I’ll for sure keep updates throughout the grow. I’ve also had a smell issue before which is why I chose to go with a kit that had one included.
oh yea forsure keep updated on odours cont. and plants. i just started an odour control methods so hopefully ill be hearing more on odour control as well always good to be able to help out a fellow grower. good luck. happy growings.
