Coconut Oil: Solid tub v. Liquid bottle

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Greenalot, Nov 7, 2014.

  1. I heard conflicting reports about solid and liquid coconut oil. Some people have said that the liquid coconut is better because it has more fat and will absorb the THC it better. I've also been told (and this seems to be the more popular thought process) that there are chemicals in the liquid oil to keep it that way which actually makes it not absorb as well as the solid tub of coconut oil.

Does anyone have a definitive answer to this question? I want to use the best form of coconut oil that will absorb and infuse best & most efficiently with the THC cannabinoids.

    Thank you

  2. Coconut oil can change states between solid and liquid. It all depends on temperature, above 76 F it'll be liquid, below 76 F it'll be solid. If you're cooking the oil, it'll be liquid throughout the heating process.

As far as I know, a quality coconut oil is cold/expeller pressed and doesn't contain chemicals.

  3. Pretty much exactly what dude said. I remember the first time I picked up coconut oil to make edibles with. I compared all the fat contents of other oils to coconut oils. Grape seed oil is the only one that comes close and it's not even close. Then I checked the butter and again it wasn't close (it wasn't clarified butter though). All you gotta do is compare the two. I always just buy a tub and melt whatever the recipe calls for in a saucepan on warm. Re-meausure and use that. Use organic if you can too.

Hey thanks guys. I know the melting point but had heard that there was a fully liquid form of something "close to" coconut oil that was even better to use to infuse cannabinoids. That information seems to be incorrect... coconut oil is the BEST way to infuse your active THC.

We ended up getting the solid coconut oil which had by far the highest fat & fat soluble content than anything else used for infusing. Had almost everything we needed from leftovers from a previous trial, but needed to buy another coconut oil to make the full 2 cups - both had exactly the same fat content & both were organic, & expeller pressed, & no chemicals.

When it was all said and done, I think I have created a very nice little dosage system that works well for my patients so far. Only have received back good reviews :)

Here's the information I posted in the thread in the link below about what I used and did throughout my process (with photos as well):

I used coconut oil, 14 grams of premium bud (grinded & decarboxilated), about 2.5 tsp of soy lecithin, & my Magical Butter 2 machine to make the cooking part MUCH easier and more consistent for each batch of cannaoil made, especially for the inexperienced cannabis cooks like myself out there, lol. I store my cannaoil cubes in the fridge unless I'm going on a little car ride with it... in which I then would give it a quick 15 minutes in the freezer. Make sure to bring an ice pack so to keep it above 76 degrees to keep it in it's solid, 1 tsp per dosage state.

Let me know what you think!
    Thx

Just a heads up that may save a little headache. If any of your patients had their gull bladder taken out the lecithin won't sit right on there stomach.

  6. Got it... thanks!

  7. so in a bud brownie batch, u can use coconut oil as a sub for any other oil as it's the best? I use coconut oil to moisturize a lot, it's great for everything

  8. Yup, shit I sub mine for butter in a lot of recipes. It makes your brownies a better texture I think. Like they are gooey but not undercooked. You'll see what I mean. I've been trying to tell some local folks about coconut oil instead of butter. They digress, oh well their loss.

  9. Yep... for a chocolate-chip cookie batch I made a little while ago, I substituted coconut oil (well, cannaoil) instead of butter. These mixes usually call for a 1/3 cup of oil for your cookies (brownies might be different measurements) and as long as you cook them at a low temperature (for a longer time frame), your canna-cookies or canna-brownies should come out fantastic!

    Good luck!
