Coco grow leaf discoloration

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by sessecs, Sep 2, 2017.

  1. I'm growing HBO Blue Dream in Canna Coco and have leaves discoloring in Week 5 from seed.

    Water mix (per gallon):
    R/O water
    2.5ml CalMagPlus
    3.75ml Advanced Nutrients Part A
    3.75ml Advanced Nutrients Part B
    1ml Amino Acids
    1ml Superthrive
    = 375-400ppm, 5.8pH

Water to run off everyday when lights come on

The pH in and run off pH are 5.6-5.8

The run off ppm is around 200

    Temps: 73F
    Hum: 37-43%

I cannot find a reason to be having this issue. It appears to be primarily on plants that were topped. I've grown in soil and did not have this problem.

What does it look like to you?

  2. Coco can do funny things with potassium and calcium if you are not using a feed made for Coco. I think you might need to flush. I use cocos a&b from H&G and it designed to work with the coco. Pretty sure advanced has something similar if you like their stuff.

  3. Which brings us to a very important point about using coco coir as a growing medium…

If the nutrients you’re using are not designed to be coco coir safe, you’ll not only be missing out on the gigantic yields you could be getting using coco coir… you run the risk poisoning or starving your plants!

It’s true that calcium and magnesium both occur naturally in coco coir. But the amounts of each aren’t sufficient to feed your plants.

Not only that, but calcium and magnesium are both naturally attracted to bind to coco coir!

Which means only the highest quality, chelated forms of magnesium and calcium (like the kind used in Advanced Nutrients’ products) are able to succeed in a growing environment that uses coco coir.

Lesser forms of either will bind to the coir and your plants will be left hungry!

And if your nutrients don’t use chelated magnesium and calcium, you’re missing out on better yields. (A lot of inferior brands will try to add dolomite lime as a quick-fix to solve this problem, but don’t be fooled… it’s not effective.)

That’s why our calcium and magnesium supplement, Sensi-Cal, has performed so well. It was designed to operate in a less-than-ideal environment and bring everything up to speed.

It’s also true that if a hydroponic nutrient or supplement doesn’t account for the levels of potassium already present in coco coir, you risk potassium toxicity.

With that in mind, it’s very important you’re sure the hydroponic nutrient products you’re buying are coco-coir safe.

Here’s a list of coco-coir safe products from Advanced Nutrients:

  4. I'm no expert on evaluating the causes of plant problems, but the plants look too large for the small containers they're in. Just my opinion.

  5. Okay well I do use cal mag+iron so I think okay there. It's gotta be my ratios or something.

I have been thinking about using canna coco a&b so I understand what you are saying.

I have seen people get great results with this feeding system in coco though. Without this discoloration and spotting.

  6. Well all my plants are super happy except for that one with spots on the big leaves. They turned yellow with black spots. She was the slowest to root from seed too.

I don't know why she is was unhappy. I sliced her up and put her in a body bag for being so ungrateful 'cause I took really good care of her and she was still unhappy. Pretty rude if you ask me.
