Coco-friendly strains?

Discussion in 'Coco Coir' started by massivedynamic, Jan 5, 2013.

  1. Long time lurker, first time poster. I've not grown before, so I am mostly a sponge and not much of an encyclopaedia yet.

I've read a few posts that indicate some strains do better in coco than others. I will be using filtered tap and adjusting the pH, growing under HPS in a one square meter grow space with temperature and humidity under control. I plan to be hand watering 100% coco in fabric pots. Any personal anecdotes for a coco-happy strain that wouldn't be too fussy if I followed a Lucas type of formula?

Thanks for sharing all your hard work, folks. :)

  2. Any strain will be fine mate. Some strains do have higher irrergation levels but when im in coco i treat it like soil with wet and dry periods (not to dry tho) . ph6 and letthe water sit for a day or 2 and your be laughing. My 2 pence bubblegummer by female seeds.mmmmmm smoke and very easy grow. good luck

  3. dont know if certain strains favor coco.

but my two cents- be sure to water/feed deep. in other words, allow for runoff (water/feed until it drips out of the pot, and some) i am a huge fan of runoff, and you can tell because in top feed coco, my runoff is up to 40-50%, and no less than 15%. so if you see runoff after a gallon feeding, lets say, continue feeding another 15%-50% (of a gallon) so around a half gallon should runoff.

  4. ^^My largest grows in coco have been using that method.

Everything I have grown in coco has done well but there might be a strain somewhere that don't like it. REally all the plant cares about is it's roots. Root's love water and nutrients in the right amounts. Coco is real good about making those items available to the roots. Roots Happy, Plant Happy, Grower really Happy.

  5. Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll just order some seeds with clever names and descriptions and see what happens.

  6. Billions and Billions of good seeds out there. I'm partial to Reserve Privada, GHS and Dinafem and have more than I'll ever use in storage. I used some bagseed several grows ago. They loved the coco, those seeds probably never had it so good.
    Good luck

  7. Coincidentally enough, I have something from each of those companies. :D I may start a journal when I'm ready to germinate in a month or so, seems like a great way to get help if something runs afoul.

  8. marijuana is good in coco
