CO2 substitute?

  1. Hi
Is there anything more simple you can use?? I've read somewhere that spraying carbonated water could work as a replacement? Anyone ever tried this?

  2. Has anyone tried tried the co2 generator offered on ebay that uses sugar to release co2 gases for your plants?

  3. Hi..

Spraying carbonated water does nothing for your plants. If doesn't provide enough CO2 to do anything. Some people have used dry ice or yeast, sugar, and water, but you need to raise the CO2 level from 300 PPM (normal room) to 1500 PPM (optimal amount). Unless you have a pretty small grow space, neither dry ice or yeast will give you that much of an increase.

    Good Luck!

  4. WhobeBoo said it pretty well.

Your plants will grow fine without it. Until you get to the point where you feel as though the only other way to improve your grow is to add CO2, you won't need it. When you do get to that point though, you'll know how to set up a CO2 system.

  5. i don't use co2 at all... i pump the air out so fast that i feel like i would be wasting my money.

  6. if you have good ventilation and air flow you probably won't need co2. u can generate a small amount of co2 with a bottle, water, sugar and some yeast. costs about $3 to make. here's how to do it

  7. Don't even bother with CO2. Unless you're willing to go full out and do a proper system it won't get you anything. Even with a full blown CO2 system all you'll get is a bit faster growth and higher yield, and it's hardly worth the cost in most cases.

  8. he is right, I have a CO2 setup for carbonating beer and used it on growing once, there was not that big of a diff. mostly because I was moving the air to fast for the CO2 to stay in the room.

I would only use it again if the temps got really high or if I was growing for commercial use which is not going to happen.

  9. I have my beer fermenters near my plants. I figure it can't hurt, but I don't ever expect it to help much. I don't force carbonate though; the only CO2 is from the fermentation.

  10. I pump my co2 from fermentation in there too, but who knows if it helps.
force carbonation is the way to go, cuts the weeks of bottle carbonation into 3 days.

like I said I set it up once to CO2 enrich the room but the vent. was to strong and would pump it out. I used to use the exhale CO2 bags and they did work but I had a setup where the air was moved out, cooled and put back into the same room so it was the same air.

  11. Natural bottle or cask conditioning is far superior than forced carbonation IMO. Far better taste when you are dealing with live beer.

  12. anyone heard of spraying club soda/soda water directly on the plants in flower at night?

  13. Hi.. This is what the OP was asking.. and it doesn't work. Not enough CO2 in it. And CO2 needs to be added during the 'daytime' hours when the plant is taking in CO2.

    Good Luck!

  14. what about just before the lights come on

  15. baking soda plus vinegar=co2
