i heard that you could use bottled, carbonated water, applied through a mister for all the co2 needs of a closet/showeroom grow.. anyone tried this or come across it before? cheers boys, viva
Ya i ahve heard of that before i was watching a video grow guide online and this guy does it all the time sais its good to do along with regular CO2 inrichment. I havent tried it myself but i have been meaning to try it
I heard that seltzer water is the best for that because of its lower sodium. But I've put it in a spray bottle and misted every few nights, but it seems like the carbonation goes after a day or 2. Anyone know about just aerating the soil, I guess by poking small, thin holes) and just pouring seltzer water? Would that do anything?
i bought some co2 caps, that you put in the water, and it frees CO2 into the water, the only prob is that it has a magnesium component so i got mag deficiency, but you can try...my plants grew strong but i dont know if it was from the carbonated water i sprayd them with
It wouldn't do anything to help the plant absorb more CO2 since gas exchange is done through the stoma on the underside of the plants leaves. You would however be giving more aeration to the roots with oxygen.
A quick co2 method I use is... 2 cups of sugar in a 1/2 gallon of water and 1 pack of wine yeast. This will last you about 2 weeks. Try it out
carbonated water is best drank. Total waste to spray it. I dont care if some green guy was doing it in a video, still a waste of time and good mixer.
whats the most effective, cheap and easy co2 method any knows then? not sure where to get wine yeast..
Just use the fermentation method. Look in your yellow pages or your equivilent directory to find brewing shops. Lacking those around you, you can get brewers yeast from health food shops. The ones that sell organic and non GMO food should have it.
good stuff, theres an organic health food shop at the end of the road. ill have a look for brewers yeast and wine yeast. what mix should i use and should i mix in the fertilisers too or do it seperate... rar cheers
Aerating is a fine idea, careful not to hurt the roots. But do NOT pour CO2 on the soil, the roots need O2 oxygen, CO2 will suffocate the roots.
If you can find it wine yeast is the best because the yeast can tolerate 14%-18% alcohol and therefore survive the longest. I think brewers yeast is 5%-7% with bakers yeast lower than that. If your using 2L bottle/s dissolve about 1.5 - 2 cups of sugar in water and put a tablespoon of yeast in. Also don't fill the bottle right up because it will bubble and you don't want anything but carbon dioxide coming out. What exactly are you mixing the fertilisers into?
im not using nutes at the moment, but just ordered advanced nutrients sensi grow a&b. should be here tuesdayish. the last nutes i used (tomato ones with seaweed) burnt my smallest a little so im just using water to drain them out for now.. once mixing that concoction how do you apply the co2 to the plants? i know it sounds dumb but cheers
its cool man. The yeast which are bacteria is dormant and when you add them to the sugar water solution they wake up and start to (eat) break down the sugar molecules which produces roughly half ethanol (alcohol) and carbon dioxide gas which is seen as it bubbles to the surface. The yeast multiply and the reaction proceeds faster until there is no more food left or the alcohol content becomes to high and they die. You can direct the CO2 which is produced through the use of a hose coming from the top of the bottle pointed over the top of your plants. When this starts to happen you should see a sediment forming at the bottom of the container which is the yeast becoming dormant again. You can use this to start another one and pretty much have a perpetual production going if you do this within a week. Some additional information, yeast also need amino acids to function properly and if you just use normal table sugar (sucrose) then they may not be acheiving their full potential. So try using brown sugar or corn syrup or raw sugar. Hope this helps
Once you mix it up, find some way to get it above your plants, since co2 is heavier than air. edit:damn im slow
ok if you have the yeast in a bottle or w/e above the plants wouldn't all the co2 just rest in the top of the bottle and not actually go out and get to the plants? wouldn't ur bottle just be saturated w/ co2 and not ur plants?
i had to post because of the silly misunderstanding with this co2 deal. The bottle is saturated with co2 when it builds up inside of it, until the point it builds so much it escapes from the top through the tube set up to the plants. The bottle doesnt have to be above the plants for this to work, and if you were brewing wine you could use those as large co2 generators, *my friends sisters cousins dog tried, it worked alright* intake is better, unless you are working shit in a hot room, then you need more co2. but intake would cool the room, so eff co2. ambient cool air is spiffy.
probably because it won't produce enough co2 to do much good. if your temps are high and you need to supplement co2, get a pressurized co2 tank like they use for tappers and rig that up so it slowly lets out the co2 over your plants.
I read about the tank CO2, but that's way overkill for my tiny setup. I just wonder how much of a percentage boost the seltzer CO2 gives. Even if it's only 5-10%, that's a small improvement IMO. Seltzer is pretty damn cheap, only 50 cents a bottle. I'm looking into doing dry ice on my next grow. There's a place nearby me where I can pick it up, and besides, the temps will be pretty hot in the summertime, and the dry ice will help keep the temps down in the cabinet I figure. I know that the normal CO2 level is 300 PPM, and I'm trying to get it up to around 1500 PPM which is what weed plants like.
