If the Mars is your LED choice the CMH will win everytime.
CMH provides an amazing spectrum, added UV/IR output, super long bulb life - you'll get 3+ years out of a bulb even if used continuously. Lower heat output compared to a HPS. I personally wouldn't get the double 630watter I would buy 2 individual fixtures. Better coverage.

  4. Big difference on heat output....im guessing you can control your grow room good enough for that to not be an issue?

  5. I disagree. I run LED boards and if you combined the amount of heat each of my 288 150watt QB Boards produce compared to one 315 CMH. I would put my money on the CMH producing less. I'm not just spouting stats on the CMH I've ran the bulbs for 2 years now and I think they grow just as good as LED. I run my flower tent with a CMH/LED combo and I think that is the best setup you can run.

  6. Theres nothing like an hps. If you can control heat Hps is alot better than any type of led. They are more expensive to run over time though.

  7. I would LOVE to run a crop under HPS....just ONCE!! lol

  8. LED for veg
    HPS for flower

I know fan bois will come argue but if you want great no brainer results, well you get the idea.

And you don’t need a super expensive bad ass $1200 LED if vegging.

You can veg like a mofo on cheaper ones.

  9. There are plenty of LED lights that spank HPS lights. If you look all across the board and compare heat, energy, a bud weights, the GOOD led lights will win every time.

Now, when you take an HPS and and compare it to some knockoff Viparspectra or Marshydro of course the HPS will win. But if you compare it to anything from HLG or PLC then the LED takes the trophy.

  10. Been hearing this for years. Still they got no penetration. Must prune and train and trim etc... to just come close to what I can achieve never trimming shit, or moving my lights.

So maybe if you spend $1200, grow just the right high yielding strain, train and trim the fuck outta it the entire grow, ensure you keep your LED at perfect distance, and maybe just maybe you will match HPS grow that does none of that shit.

I work a real job for a living and smoke weed as a hobby. I ain’t got no desire to be fucking around in my tent hours each day.

I literally peek in once every couple days. Water/feed once per week. Never trim etc...

All those LED growers spend A LOT more time on their shit than I desire to.

  11. I mess with my plants once every few days to feed. Other then the average topping plants and light defoliation...which I would do under any light for direct light to lower bud sites...I dont have to jump through hoops. Maybe if you cheaply light your area with Amazon blurples. And 1200 dollars could light a 4x8 area with badass light if you DIY

  12. Exactly. Thanks for typing all of that for me lol. Even 1000$ LED don't get the penetration that HPS gets. Cob LED are alot better than the blurple, but still not nearly as good as hps. Hps is by far best bang for your buck. I just got a 1000W air cooled kit for 180$ comes with a HPS bulb, a MH bulb, a ballast, and a pretty nice hood with glass. New bulbs cost 25 each. Even if the ballast broke after one year it would be worth it due to how cheap it was. It would only cost me 32$ a month to run my whole setup. Im expecting to pull at least 800gs with my one 1000W HPS. I'm going to use LED for my clones though. Some people are forced to use LED because of heat, or expensive electricity. Thankfully I only pay 5.6 cents per KW

  13. LEDs burn out too. They are high maintenance lights. One goes out can cause others to not light as much or at all. Still put out heat (look at the size of those heatsinks) too.

And the best ones will still end up being 450w+ to cover an area that would normally run 600w HPS. It’s not even saving much electricity imo.

I veg with great results from LED so to act like I’m some sorta newb hater would be not accurate at all. (Not saying anyone did lol). I just think it’s always advertised with exaggerated claims. The people who do well with them are not newbs and have grown / experimented with lights for years. Heck a lot of them like wiring/soldering and part of the hobby/fun for them. I just don’t think average grower is there or on that level.

I had a really popular thread MANY years ago that was ‘Simple DWC’. The entire point was to myth bust the the idea that ‘it’s hard to grow good weed’. Or that it required a ton of time or money. Been so long lost most of the pics from the new format. Also busted many other hydro myths like flushing and nute strength etc...

I still to this day do everything by the book or that thread I should say lol. And I still have great success.

  14. It’s just hard also support an industry where if I put my own LED together it’s < $300...

Buy equivalent already in a kit from anywhere:
    $1200 lol

  15. That's the thing IF YOU DIY. Light that area with a plug a play looking at closer to 2500 dollars. In the reality of it 75% of growers won't be growing within a year. They will either be forced to stop by a life change or realize the time an dedication it takes to grow just isn't worth it. I would rather be out a couple hundred dollars Vs. 1200-2000$. Another common mistake new growers make is thinking that since LED lights are cutting edge technology that it will grow them better weed then a HID which isn't the case at all.

  16. I do think watt for watt LED crushes metal halides in vegging. And once again, with those ‘shitty blurples’ lol. Funny how like few years ago the blurple was sold to us a superior tech lol. Now they dogged!!! But same claims on these ‘good’ LEDs were made about the blurples too! I’m old enough to remember!

But seriously they are great for vegging!

LEDs have an obvious market, it’s just the sellers think that it’s the HPS market lol. It’s really not. People who like their HPS are likely to be disappointed with the switch during flower.

If you can expel heat. You want HPS.

Mine runs in a room that is about 90F this time of year, BEFORE THE LIGHTS COME ON! After they come on... no increase. No ac or anything. Just plain ole negative air pressure and expel heat to the outside so it doesn’t recirc in the room. Inside the tent is barely hotter than the outside. Plants look great. The key is airflow, and actually expelling heat and not recycling it.

I still need fans/airflow with my LEDs in veg.

It’s physics. If you can’t properly expel the heat then you gotta use a/c to cool the air because overtime recirculating warm air will just cause it to continually and gradually get warmer.

In other words. If in legal state, put a 6in vent in the outside wall just like the dryer vent. Or use the dryer vent. Negative air pressure + outside venting = no smell inside even with no carbon filters, no temp increase

  17. @Private Stalk
Check my journal. The QB's I got from China kick 1200 watts of HPS right in the ass and they are cheap too.
I get penetration, not hardly as much as HPS but damn close.
Give em' a try, they are cheap and very effective for flowering. I have the 3k ones.

  18. Only been a little over a week and plants are loving the new light 20190803_122549.jpg
