Like I said I am clueless.... I have only ever smoked joints before. Are chillum's harsher? Where do you put the weed? It looks like it would just fall out, and how do you not smoke ashes? Also I have smoke out of a steamroller before, I just remembered. What makes a chillum different from a one-hitter? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks, Sammy
Think of it as a blunt but made of clay or glass. You pack it in there like a one hitter then just light the end like a blunt or joint. You hold it in your hand between the ring and middle finger, then make a fist around it and inhale from the space between your index finger and thumb. And there should be a stone filter so that you don't inhale ash. If you don't have any I think they sell them in the gc shop. EDIT: I guess people hold them different ways but that's how I always have. Just look it up on youtube learing from a vid would probably be easier.
First time I was tokin out of a chillum, my friends thought I was smoking crack. You pack a one hitter quitter then just burn til greens go ash! Don't hold the flame on the chillum cause you'll just end up burning yourself.
i am partial to my chillum, it has served me well. load the bowl, starting with a piece of bud that is just big enough to fill the hole, and then pack on top of that. doing this i have never needed a stone filter, nor have i inhaled total ash... i love my chillum, its compact, simple and effective. good luck op, hope i helped a bit
You have to pull in flame over the bud, just pack some in the bowl end and pull gently while holding a flame in front of it. To avoid pulling ash, do what snozzberries says (lol love super troopers btw) and stick a bigger bit of bud in the bottom to plug the hole. Just keep an eye on where the ember is in the bowl, and when you see it's mostly burned, only pull gently. Blow out the ash once it's all burnt. You can suck soft enough that it won't pull through, but hard enough that it'll still stay cherried.
Ah yeah, bit of cloth probably. I've never seen anyone who does this in person, but I have seen pics of Hindu monks who cover the mouth end with cloth (I guess to stop the ash?) Not totally necessary but if you're pulling ash through by accident you might wanna try it.
Use a plug nug. Take a tiny piece of a nug that's just big enough to cover the hole. Test it by sucking through it to make sure it's secure and that it gives enough airflow. Then pack ground weed on top. When you hold it, hold it straight like a joint but make sure the bowl end is not pointing downward or some weed may fall out.

They aren't really any different as far as how harsh they are. I liked my chillum a lot better than the spoon i have now. They are also cooler than spoons because not everyone has one.
Most people have actually no clue on how to smoke a chillum correctly and end up burning theiry fingers/mouth. You will have to use a filter-stone at the base of the chillum and a cold-wet cloth, fixed around the outer end and base of the chillum (to filter out any particles, ash and to cool the smoke a bit). Then - as mentioned - you put it in one hand and support it with the other hand - the other making a fist to smoke out of. Usually you have a friend flame the bud up. Some really handy guys manage to light it up on their own - smoking the first hit out of just one hand, then taking the other one to take proper hits... - I was never able to perform this trick. The cloth always slips away when holding it in one hand. A chillum also isnt a "one hitter". You should be able to get 5-6 hits out of a normal sized chillum. regards..
I know it's not the proper way, but I smoke my chillum like an end-heavy joint. I just hold the piece in my mouth and use both hands to light it up. Then I just hit it like a joint that doesn't continue to burn. I love my little buddy, so lovingly dubbed "Brian Smithers's Cock"
