Hello, about to start new project in my bedroom with 600 HPS only planning on running 6 plants since thats all the state allows me.. I was thinking of a 3x3x6.5ft tall tent with a cool tube OR in my 5ft wide X 2ft deep x 9ft tall closet... 2 things im worried about.. HEAT and ODOR. HEAT: Im in S.California room temp get up to 78 degrees in summer with the AC running. ODOR: I live in a 1 story condo and I want to keep odor in my room none in the living room incase I have important company. Tent: Odor- Would a 4 inch carbon filter with blower escaping to restroom fart fan be enough? Heat- Will the temps get too hot in 3x3 tent with 600watt HPS? even with 4 inch air intake/exhaust. Closet: Odor- Since the closet wont be as sealed as the tent, would odor escape out my room (still running 4 inch carbon filter inside closet and out the fart fan) Heat- Wont have to worry as much about heat since closet cubic feet is plenty for air to flow. *Using cool tube with air flow. *Closet has 2 side by side sliding doors that will be light sealed but not as air tight as a tent. *Outside temps 95 to 120 degrees 7 out of 12 months / indoors about 78 with AC. *during hotter months odor gets a little stronger. I dont have experience with 600Watts only with 150Watt w/ 1 plant in closet. If you can help out with any advice or tips.. Thanks!
What's going on here Vallero? Your location says you're right down by the beach but w/ 95-120 degree temps in socal you gotta be way inland. You should be able to just set up the tent in your room tho and just exhaust out the carbon filter into the room and be odor free. If your house is 78 w/ AC on in the summer then I would step up the fan size to 6" 600cfm maybe and turn down the AC a little. You might be able to grow more than 6 plants too...I know I can... Mendo.. I was quoting "Mr.Nice Guy" from half baked..when they meet Samson... im from the 760 trust me it gets HOT!.. Im gonna try 6 plants to make sure odor is controlled.. There are more than one medical card holder in the house so it would be good to pack the tent with a few more.. 600cfm fan? wouldnt that sound like theres a jet in my room? and with a 6" fan do u know if i can leave tent closed with proper intake without having heat issues? ... I gotta make sure my dog dont get to them he has a habbit of eating anything and everything marijuana but thats another deal.
I'd also like to know these answers. I've grown in both spaces but dif equipment each time so I'd be no help.
Haha...760 is big...I was born in the 760 5 minutes from the beach in Carlsbad but out east it does get hot. I have a variable speed control on my fan and on lower settings it's fine but you're right if you have to bump it up it kinda does sound like a jet. If budget isn't an issue they do sell silencer type things for big exhaust fans, haven't seen em up here but I def remember them at hydro shops all over SD/OC...I'm sure there out in the IE too. Now as for...heat a big fan is always better but that will be a battle if you have outside temps almost in the 80's already. If you can't turn down the ac then you might consider buying a small portable ac unit, again if budget is no issue. If you're on a tight budget there are some other kinda ghetto solutions that do not work as well and come with down sides. I run my setup with outside temps in the low 70's w/ 600W light and 6" fan and never have heat problems, I also use a box fan for inside circulation which is loader than my 600cfm on low. Hope this helped...
Tent with an air cooled hood. Cooltubes aren't as efficient in cooling and reflecting. You will definitely need a 6" fan with that light. Look into TD silent fan or panasonic whisperline if you need a quiet fan
You get better coverage with an a/c hood. A lot of guys who have problems with summer temps run 2 fans, one just for cooling the light and the other for the filter. Fan controller turns them down in cooler months, lowering the noise... quieter to run 2 fans at half speed than one fan all out. I wouldn't go with a smaller fan, again because you'd have to run it at full speed. A 6 or 8" fan at half speed is much quieter than a screaming 4" Just my .02
