Closet Space Question

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by J@ck, Nov 3, 2006.

  1. high all, check it out:

So I finally have a means of growing. Lately I've been reading, studying, tearing through these forums, hg420, whatever I can really to learn up on this art of hydroponics.
My space is lookin like a closet grow. approx. 2x8x8 THOUGH I may need to seperate it in half, give or take - my babies will be first priority for space over storage, but i do need storage.

So How do I go about dividing the space, and whats my approach for veg/flower setup in these space conditions?

Thank you much and I'm way excited to get started on my first grow!

  2. Depends, If you need grow and storage I recomend make the veg and flower area one place and just force them to all flower together.

  3. Well there are so many diffrent types of hydro set ups you should prolly decide on one before you start sectioning off your closet i would go with a dwc system in buckets rather then tubblers since they seem like they would be a bitch to move.
IMHO you should section the closet off 5/3 giving your self room for 4-5 buckets and your mother /cloning room. I dont know if i would bother to go hydro on the mother but if you want to there are pleanty of options. Have you decided what type of lights are you planning on going with for your system depending on your lights ventilation may be required. I can also give you a link to several very good video grow guides if you are intrested.

  4. You know I was toying with the idea of using BBs. Thanks for the suggestion and diagram. Yea why not I'd enjoy looking over those videos zergling. Would this be a decent method to start with? Seems fun, worth a try.
Though doesn't it take up alot of space, being individual 5gal. (thats adequate space right?) buckets per plant? Just knocking out little questions.

In the event I can't setup up a seperate veg room I was thinking bout getting mh/hps switchable lights... but all I found with were pricey. Can't I use metal halide bulbs in a high pressure sodium fixture of the same wattage? hmm any lighting suggestions in this scenerio?

I figure I'll line my little space with black and white poly material. Whats the best way to ventilate this project? Would it take much?

    Thanks for the help

  5. IMHO bubbler's would be one of the best systems to start with as there one of the simplest.
I like buckets as apposed to tubs for several reasons plants grown in buckets build massive root structures almost like trees really lol. Tubblers IMO seem best suited for scrog/smaller plant growing methods and as i said i don't really like them do to the massive amount of water thats in them. Yes 5 gal buckets would be perfect and 1 plant per bucket of course the buckets can also be squeezed in a lot tighter then i did in my drawing to make sure that no light is lost.

I'm not sure about your question on using a mh light in an hps ballast but really the veg room isn't about the light its about the time you save by not having to grow from seed.

Ventilation would be determined on lighting if i were you and planning the 4-5 bb method i would go with a 1k watt light for the flowering room and floros for the veg room.
Remember all of your plants energy comes from light the more you give them the faster they grow the more they yield. The 1 k watt light however would require decent venting do you have the ability to vent closet the stealthly if needed?

  6. oh wow 1k, I was looking at like 400watt hps. and saving me some on venting lol is that really not enough for 4 or 5 plants?

Also: 1 fat airpump for all the plants or 1 per BB?

    thanks again.

  7. Well of course you don't have to go with the 1000 watter i just built this grow room as i would have built the room if it was mine. I just couldn't sacrifice those huge tree like plants for 100 or so dollars in savings. http://www.insidesun.com/index.php?action=item&id=75&prevaction=category&previd=specials&prevstart=0

As far as the air pumps go the configuration is up to you but i think a large amount of the systems ability to to increase growth rate is due to the huge amount of aeration.
So more is always better if you do go with a single pump make sure that it is strong enough to support all the buckets. I would probably go with one pump just to avoid having so many pumps laying around.
