Closet growing can be dangerous,,,

  1. Today i was in my greenroom talkin to my plants and as i was standin there i noticed a little cracking sound.

Next thing i know one of my plaster walls collapsed and a big piece of plaster almost caught me in the head. My building was built in like 1902 and the plaster was original. I guess it's time to put my drywall skills to good use and build me a sealed cleanroom. I got a lot of plumbing running through the room so it'll be intersting to say the least cutting all the holes, notches and skots and geting em all taped up.

Actually this is a good thing cause it's giving me an excuse to build a cleanroom. I'm even considering building an airlock so i can have a true dust free environment, as i also plan to use the space for developing film and possibly working on sensitive electronics

  2. LOL wow, aint that a bitch.
Better get that patched up before ur plants get cold ! lol

  3. Plants are gone, I picked my best lookin girl and put her in an emergency veg chamber i whipped up and the other 5 had to go, just no room(i planned on doing this but i was gonna veg 'em all and pick one for flowering) . I need to rebuild the room.

Actually i'm kinda glad it happned tho cause it gives me a good reason to build a better room. I'm gonna fir the wall out like 1" to 2" and prolly use 1/2" drywall so there is space to do some wiring and i'm gonna be able to now seal the room airtight. I plan on doing the drywall with small gaps, sealing all the gaps with a good silicone sealant and then mudding and taping the seams and doing a few coats of gloss white paint that i can clean easily. I need to do all this to the room anyways cause it's gonna be used as a cleanroom/darkroom for photography and dust sensitive computer stuff. If i do decide to go all the way with it i'll prolly build an airlock where i can suit up for cleanroom work. I'd like to have at least an industrial grade Level 2-3 containment area, if i go any higher i'd need air showers, a full isolation suit, and breathing air supply, not to mention a shitload of HEPA filters.

A level 2 protocol would be easy cause it would only require a passive airlock and hairnet, gloves, respirator, and plastic suit.

It will actually be easy cause it's such a small room it's easy to keep isolated and i can prolly have it built by myself in a day or two excluding filtration system and airlock.

  4. My only suggestion would be is to use flate white paint over the glossy. For some reason the flat paint has higher percentage of reflectivity, it's up there with mylar.

Also if you want to keep any insect infestations out then use pantyhose in your ventilation...plus prevention is worth a thousand cures. Sounds like a good plan though

It's funny how good things come from bad situations. The other day my neighbor backed into my car with his van. I parked it outside in the street instead of the driveway and he didn't know it was there. Now I'm gonna have some money in my pocket and trade that car in for something newer.

  5. Hey vato, the white will not be the light reflective surface for the plants, they're gonna go in a separate lightproof enclosure which i'll do in flat white, and i like the pantyhose idea too. I'm gonna try find a small hepa filter from home depot or somewhere that has a fan and uses replacacble cartridge filters and also use some actvated carbon on both intake and exhaust. I'll prolly use one corner of the room for grow and the rest for my lab.

  6. Oh I see...sounds pretty stealthy.

If you really want to go all out then get an Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image. They use less power then a 60W bulb and the cleaning is so much easier than a hepa filter, so basicly they pay for themself. I want one so bad but there expensive. But if money isn't a factor then I'd say go for it, or if you really wanna go all out invest in an ozone generator. You wouldn't be able to smell anything til you stuck your head in the growbox.

  7. It'll be a low buck setup, it'd just gonna take a lot of labor, pretty simple, i'm gonna drywall a box up and seal it off, put some kind of plastic bubble airlock where i can mask up if i do make it a containment room, and on the side of the door i'll put some bathroom vent fansin and out and put air conditioner hepa filters and charcoal on 'em. I guess it sounds more complicated than it really is and i prolly don't even need an airlock for actually masking up but a double door like darkrooms have would work as long as i can seal it. The grow itself would prolly be in a vertical office cabinet against the back wall and i'll build a workbench area with what i need for tools n crap for doin film developing and clean electronics if i need to.

I'd like ionization but it's still expensive and i don't wanna deal with O3 at all. hepa is cheap and easy and you can buy replacement filters pretty cheap. I'll use el cheapo prefilters so the hepa stuff lasts longer too, and pantyhose on the outside.

I used to work in a level 5 full containment room so i'm familiar with room specs, protocol, and procedure as well as hepa filters on tools and equipment. I don't need level 5 containment but level 2 would be nice to keep dust and grit off film while it's developing and drying, and dust from the lenses on photo equipment.
