Cloning, need serious help please

  1. I'll get right to it. I am currently growing a bagseed strain that I started around 12/25/03. As of now it is in its 6th generation, and has been up til now a great success. All up until about early November, cloning was going smoothly. Since, I've not been able to get any clones through.

The clone donor is the sole plant of this strain right now, in soil under a 250w MH. Ferts are a normal General Hydroponics 3-part Vegging solution. Ferts 1 day a week, 3 waterings between each fert dose.

For cloning, I use 1"/1"/1" rockwool cubes, Clonex gel rooting solution, and No-Wilt spray. Lights are 20w of cool white flourescents. I also have a heat mat that is supposed to stay at 74-80 degrees fahrenheit, though it does not have a heat controller.

Now for the poor little clones that haven't made it. With most of the failed clones, I've noticed, despite the No-Wilt, seem to go limp and never regain strength. The leaves on occasion will shrivel up to the inside. Looking at the cut site, it looks hollow and dry, which makes me believe that it may be the heat mat.

Please, if anyone has questions or ideas that may help, feel free to reply. I'll reply any questions as soon as I can, and hopefully I can move this anxious girl into flowering soon.

  2. HIGH All, I've never cloned in rockwool before..just Sunshine mix#4. Maybe use another medium to put your clones in? Never used a heatmat either..maybe try without the mat and a another medium. Do you have a dome over the clones?
Hope you get this fingered out..I know how you feel about your Mother plant.

  3. Thanks for the reply, Unoit

Actually, I tried a basic 50/50 mix of Perlite/Vermiculite before and it seemed to work fairly well. I'll definitely leave out the heat mat next time, the more I think about it the more it seems that may be part of the problem.

I don't have a good dome, though recently I did make an attempt to fashion one out of wire coathangers and seran wrap. Gotta be the MacGyver kinda grower. =P If it would be a good investment, I guess I could get a real humidity dome, though the one I made is able to do some good at least.

  4. get a dome or a propagator its a must unless you are using a bubble cloner.....the ver and per mix is great for cloning.....laters

  5. What light do you have your plants under? if its the 250W MH then thats way too much light for the plants. They are trying to do photosynthesis because of all that light and thats bad when your trying to clone.

    EDIT:
I would probly do like 3 23W florescents or CFL's for mother/cloning. Thats what ive always seen with small mother/cloning boxes and its always seemed to work for them.
