Cloning hard drive.... and what not to do.

  1. Hello everybody!!!! I have many years of experience starting with my Comodore 64 and I still mange to screw things up. I thought maybe it was because I was stoned and maybe had a factor since being lazy to do the correct things to protect myself and to read all screens i attribute to pot.

It started out like this. I got a virus that screwed my os up. I decided I wanted a backup of my new install onto another hard drive. I have a multi boot iso on cd that I use to ghost or acronis machines. I loaded my os to the way I wanted it, cod2, 4, 5, MW2, Crysis, and 140gb of music restored. Installed all programs and was ready to image.

I hooked up my other hard disk exactly like my old booted of my magic cd and then booted to acronis. C: was my first disk and d: was my second drive. The options in aronis said something about destorying the data and i choose it. The image happened but when I booted it failed on both drives.

What I did was told acronis to destroyed the data on my old drive after the image. So i installed again got it all setup and noticed in windows 7 my drive id's with both drive hooked up said c: disk 1 d: disk 0. I figured that was my problem so i swapped sata cables and imaged again. I told it disk 1 to disk 2 in acronis and boom it did it again.

I learned my lesson. The best way to know what disk is what do the following. In windows delete the partitions of the new drive it if it has any. Then in Acronis you can make sure what disk is what, otherwise it is a guessing game. Then image.

It took my 5 reloads to get my crap strait. Not just the acronis but definitely because of the pot. :smoke:

    Peace,
    hxtr
