Cloning/Growing Fast Buds

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by Corkwheats, Aug 31, 2020.

  1. Hi Guys,
A friends swears by this technique:
He takes Clones - right when the plant is at the end of Veg (mature) then, grows them for maybe a month or so - and puts them into Flower Stage (12/12). So, he’s producing buds off small plants. Sure seems like a way to save space & time. Does this sound like a good plan?

  2. An easier method is just grow autos...

that way you keep the lights 18/6? and get an extra 6? hours extra light a day

afterall more light = bigger buds

    good luck

Works great for sea of green, if you do this with a number of plants you can get a very good crop But some of these guys are veging out 1 plants for a couple months and getting more then half a dozen plants can do with a couple weeks veg. Its all preferences. Try both if you're curious.

  4. It's pretty much what I do. I have moms I take clones from, these clones get a week or two veg (sometimes even less). It's basically how you would grow Sea of Green, lots of small plants so you're saving lots of time by not having to veg.

This is my current round, I think these got two weeks of veg and turned out to even be too much because they stretched quite a bit so I had to train them and remove some of the plants (notice the front pots are empty)

  5. Thanks Scooby! I want to do this!
    2 Questions:
Is it necessary that the “Mother” plants be fully mature, at the end portion of Veg., and about ready for Flower?

Can you (in a nutshell) explain what “Sea of Green” means? (or direct me to a video, etc.). I’ve heard of it, but don’t really know what all it entails.

This method looks exactly like what would work well in my basement!!!

    Thank You!

  6. This is why people love this method, its fast and look at those colas...

  7. Makes a ton of sense to me!
When you say “this method” are you referring to the “Sea of Green” method?
I apologize that I have very little time to do deep research on the internet.
What, in the most basic terms, is the “Sea of Green” method? (Is this it - that you just do a ‘quick veg’ cycle, and get them going into Flower?)

  8. Yes the mothers need to be sexually mature, usually that happens 2-3 months from germination and you can tell when it happens because the internodes start growing asymmetrically. But once they reach maturity you can keep the moms indefinitely under 18/6, or longer, light schedule.

Sea of Green (or SOG) is basically what you were saying in your first post. Clones (from a mature mom) are flowered with very little (or none at all) veg time, packing the space with as many plants possible (depending on genetics this can vary).

There are tons of videos on YT if you search for SOG grow

  9. Thanks! I’ll view the Video. Do you guys do it in soil or CoCo? Or, can you do either? I’ll research it, as well. But, seeing those small plants with those honker buds really struck a cord with me. Just makes lots of sense, and would seem to be less expensive and less labor intensive.

  10. SOG can be done many different ways, hydro or organic soil, coco or 2liter bottles.
Usually I do mine in a big 100gallon smart pot, but i'm now experimenting with shallower beds/pots. The pic I showed you is in 3gallon pots that sit in a bottom watering tray, or SIP if you will.

  11. Thanks so much.
So, does everyone agree that the S.O.G. method will give you MORE buds each year than conventional?
    I'm really psyched about this.
I viewed the video. Looks great.

  12. Oh, and I was gonna ask - When you get the cuttings from your mature Mother Plant for clones, should you get some that are a little larger, so they get "off and running" quicker?

  13. I do this exact thing.
Take clones and let them root up good,
After roots are established i plant in 16oz solo cups and leave them under the t5 for 10 to 14 days. Transplant into 2.2 gal air pots and switch. Now depending on space, lights, genetics this can be a very fast way to have a continuous harvest cycle going.
I run 3 strains right now doing this technique. A NL hybrid, Blue Gelato and Afgan Kush. All 3 work well due to being a dense, short flowering strains. I average a 13 to 16 week run with averaging a quarter pound a plant. Ive offset my plants in flower by 2 weeks this run, so I'll have 2 finish and 2 go in, 2 weeks later 2 more finish and 2 go in. And the last plant is 2 weeks from that. So I've set myself up to start a bi-weekly harvest starting in mid October. 20200902_124208.jpg 20200902_124239.jpg these are just at week 3 today. The clones came out on Aug 3rd, I went right to the airpots just a week out of cloner and stuck in flower.

  14. I’m sure more people would do that if they didn’t have a plant count to stay legal. You have to remember, in the states that allow you to grow medical, they usually have a plant limit! A lot of people won’t go over the limit cause they want to stay legal!

  15. My question is, how you you clean and sterilize you’re room if it’s always in use? I’m a firm believer in sterilizing EVERYTHING, after each harvest. If sterilization wasn’t an issue I’d have a hard time doing it that way cause I’d rather have a bunch to do and have a few months off. Trimming and drying a full time job, your way. Not a bad thing if that’s what you’re into.

  16. Yes SOG has more potential because of the reduced grow time.

When growing SOG you really want as much uniformity as possible in plant size, so they are all the same height and distance from the lights.

  17. Oh I go through everything monthly and clean. Just move plants out of the way and clean up quickly then wipe everything down with food grade disinfect wipes. Really I keep my area really clean anyway.

  18. Okay Guys,
    One more Newbie Question........
So, I got it on the "Sea of Green" method of cloning, growing up several weeks, and moving to flower.
But......somebody else told me about ANOTHER Sea of Green method involving bending the plant over???
What's the deal with that, and do any of you guys do that???
If you wouldn't mind inserting a short video that would be great.
(I don't wanna just go to Youtube, I'd rather hear from you Pros!).
I'm not lazy in looking for answers - just really short on time right now.

    Thanks!

  19. The other method is called Screen Of Green (SCROG for short)
    How To SCROG

  20. Okay......I'm gonna do it.
    But....one other question:
I'm going "back and forth" over whether to go with organic super soil, or CoCo.
I've got the 2-2.5 gallon plastic buckets lined up - my plan is to "veg" them for about 4 weeks.
This particular strain I'm doing has done GREAT in CoCo, and I really like CoCo for an indoor grow.
I'm considering price, though. With soil, I could re-use it.
But, you can't re-use CoCo, can you?

    Thanks!
    Bob
