Im sharing my experience with this since I couldn’t find anything since 2007 about cloning in soil. I’d cut clones about 3-4 weeks ago, put them in solution (rootex gel), cut angle and all that stuff. I’d done it enough to know how, and always used domes. In curiosity, I had 4 different types of soil and 12 cuttings of the same strain. I used some cloning powder that I bought from Walmart, dipped them about an inch deep, then planted into the twelve containers of dirt. 11 out of 12 plants lived in dirt with no domes, just sun, roughly 8 hours of shaded sun. The one that did die just so happened to be the one I did different than the rest, which was put it in a cup of good dirt that was purchased. The others were bottles I rigged to have the mouth part give access to the actual ground. Having access to the soil in the ground was what gave them the want to live. Without access to the ground and only having purchased soil, it didn’t even try. If you actually know why, I’m curious. I’m thinking it’s the nutrients in the soil itself? The roots I had in the ground were thick compared to the bought soil in the bottle. Side note: I also used soil in a dome next to sponges and pellets. The sponges/pellets lived, but every one in soil died.
Are you saying you used soil from the ground outside vs. store bought bagged soil? Mycorrhiza could be one factor Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
It was 12 plants, with 4 different souls purchased from stores. The only thing in common with the 11 that lived, was the fact that the ground was available at the bottom of the container. The only one that didn’t live was the one that didn’t have access to the soil in the ground. They ALL were in purchased soil though.
Sorry didn’t mean to take so long I been busy. I used purchased soil on every bottle. I had an exit at the bottom of the bottle to get into always wet ground that you’d step on but looser. I put zip lock bags over top of them and they rooted in purchased soil. The bottoms of the root were super healthy that I pulled out of the ground. Also every plant grew sooo bushy. I’ll end up trying a kiddy pool with a clear trash bag over it
I clone in soil without issue. I've done various other styles of cloning but I. An effort to simplify my grow I went back to the basics. I remember my grandmother cloning various plants and thought to myself why cant I? So i did and have been for several years now. I should sell my cloning buckets but i keep thinking that someday I'll have a use for them
