Clone?

  1. Can I take 3 or 4 clones off this plant yet? She is 7 weeks old, pretty healthy I'm eager to clone her and sex her. What you guys think?

    Attached Files:

  2. I think you could get 3 clones out of her. You'd be cutting the top and the 2 side branches. I wouldn't take 3, it is small for 7 weeks.

Why take so many clones if youre just sexing it?

Was it a clone to begin with?

If it really is 7 weeks, you should be seeing preflowers soon anyway. It will take a week for the clone to root and another week for the plant to begin flowering.

  3. Why is it so small at 7 weeks?

  4. I don't know for sure why it's so small, but it is for sure 7 weeks veg. I think it's because I started it in mg moisture control for about the first 3 weeks. It's my first grow so I didn't know any better. Now she is in ff ocean forest and I'm learning as I go

  5. If I had to guess, I would say its small because he is using cfls, or in other words, not enough light. Maybe soil too, but mainly not enough light from the looks of the picture.

  6. I got 2 in there, tiny closet one plant...so I can take a clone or 2? Where exactly should I cut?

  7. Anyone? "Bueller, Bueller, Ferris bueller

  8. Personally I like to wait until the branches are minimum 2 inches long before taking a cutting. Th bottom 2 look like good candidates.

Since the issue of lighting came up, you should take down the emergency blankets on the walls. They are not good reflectors of light, an they are costing you precious light. Flat white paint would suit you much better.

  9. Seriously?!? I don't see how Mylar isn't more reflective than flat white paint?

  10. If that's mylar, my mistake. Looked like the $2 emergency blankets I see people using.

  11. Yea it is emergency blanket, but it's Mylar. That's what the package said. I wish it was $2 lol. But still I feel like even foil would be more reflective than just white, don't ya think? Thanks bro

  12. Flat white paint is better than the emergency blanket, and foil. The mylar you see people using is 2 ml thick, so light does not pass through. Quite different then the blanket you have. Foil is a poor reflector as well.

I'm just posting what I know as fact.

So one final time flat white paint would be better then, foil, mirrors, and certainly the blankets your using.

This is true. Hell I know people that take the reflector out of their hps hood cause white reflects the light better.

  14. Ok thanks, I'm gonna finish moving into another closet in my house tonight. Ill post a pic of it later. I took your guys' advice and got materials to build a new light and I won't put up the Mylar

  15. I fail to see how white paint is better than mirrors. Surely youd get 100% reflection with a clean mirror

As someone already mentioned, there are several types of mirrors. The most common type of mirror you see in stores are made using non toxic silver or aluminum. These reflective materials will not bind to glass, so a base coat of tin oxide is used to adhere it then, a chemical activator is applied, then a layer of copper for durability, and then paint for protection.

The problem is the tin, and copper will absorb a bit of light and convert it to heat, ie not reflecting. The glass will also block some light going in, and coming out.

Second issue is reflection, and diffusion of light. A mirror seems the most reflective material, because the smooth surface. Light is reflected back very similar to how it came in. In other words things preserve their appearance in a mirrors reflection. Flat white paint will reflect more light, but diffuses it so the comparison is easily skewed with the naked eye. You can't see yourself in it, but the light coming back at you is more intense than a mirror. You want your light reflected back evenly.

Ive read mylar is 92%-97% reflective depending on the condition, white paint just below that. Mirrors really depending on the manufacturer. I would guess your average cheap mirror would be mid 80's at best.

Different mirrors may block wavelengths of light, something you also don't want.

I'm no scientist, but I've been adhering to this advice for a decade or 2 without knowing why. I read a bit on it, and this is the best explanation I have.

Hope this clears up the confusion.

PS. For anyone using the emergency blankets here is a simple test to prove they aren't optimal. Hold it up to the light. You will see through it.
