clone problems--growing tip turning black

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by sundaymorning55, Oct 26, 2011.

  1. mu hubby has been bugging me to seek the help of other experts in the field for the dilemna that currently baffles us. We have cloned successfully before, but in the last 6 mos, the tips of the clones, the crucial tip where new growth will begin, turns black and withers back anywhere from a week on. They still attempt to root, but the tops die. We are losing 75% of our clones!!!

as i noted i don't think the problem is in the cloning precedure per se, as it has worked before for years. We use a rooting agent, clonex, put them cuts in "sunleaves" plugs, put in dome at about 76-80 degrees, light is indirect and filtered by silkscreen.

we have fought spider mites forever and still are not completely rid of them, but this doesn't seem like a mite problem. Could it be a fungus? we clean everything with an H2o2 solution.

    any feedback would be appreciated!!

  2. I agree. Sounds fungal. I'd clean everything with bleach and rinse well and start again. Should kill of what-have-you.

  3. I concur
cleanliness is essential, I'd clean everything with bleach, get new rooting agent and plugs. I also rinse my blade and hands with alcohol before and during.

Is this a new strain? Some strains are harder to clone, you might try a different method. I've had success with strains that take up to 4 weeks to root in a bucket cloner. You can find easy instructions for building one in the DIY section.
