Cleaning with perc question

  1. I have read over 20 pages into the piece cleaning thread and can't find the answer I'm looking for. When I clean my percd bong and ashcatcher with 99pct iso and salt it was getting it perfectly clean again minus water marks. I haven't had my bong very long, new to percs etc.

There was a week I went without cleaning it, I rinsed but not a proper cleaning. It's been 2 weeks since then, and with the iso and salt there's is still an area in both the bong and ashcatcher not getting perfectly clear of res. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get around this or if I'm just not going to get it 100 pct clean again as I was lazy that one week? Thanks for your help in advance.

Again I use 99 pct iso and table salt as it looks as a coarse salt or rice could clog the perc.

  2. this sometimes happens with my 7/13 tree perc toro. It helps a lot to bring the iso to a boil in the microwave before putting it in your bong. Also when it happens to me, i usually clean it everyday after I tried cleaning the fist time and itll be perfectly clear after a couple cleanings.

    oh and use epsom salt.

  3. grunge off or simple green

  5. Thanks man. The epsom isn't to big to fit through the holes? Stupid question, how long do you put the iso in the microwave for, and any microwave safe container is ok to use?

  6. One thing that helps me to get the really stuck on resin off is to run hot water through your pipe for a couple minutes before you start the actual cleaning. The hotter the better. Warm resin comes off MUCH easier.

  7. Man I do this. My cleaning process starts with me rinsing out my tube, ac and slide with warm water. I usually clean my tube first so I do that in the bath tub. Slowly upgrade the warm water till it reaches the hottest the tap will go, pour in my iso and salt, clog both holes and get to shaking. To rinse I pour the iso/salt out, start rinsing with warm water, get all the way up to how hot the tap will go again, gradually increasing, and then going back down gradually till there is a nice cool temp to fill with.

I do this for the bowl and ashcatcher as well, except I use a ziploc freezer bag for those, as I don't clog the holes.

  8. No need to spend the extra money on "bong cleaning products." I use 91% iso with granule dish detergent for all of my pieces. It cleans them very efficiently. They key is to use a small but thick zip lock bag and fill it up slightly with iso and detergent for all of your slides, downstems, ash catchers, pipes, etc. Start with the cleanest parts 1st and within 5 mins of shaking it will clean almost anything. After the slides, downstem, ashcatcher, etc are clean pour the remaining alc and detergent into the tube and shake it. Also the detergent makes everything smell better and does not leave any streaks like slat can. After your pieces are clean be sure and put a coupe drops a lemon juice into any wet pipe or tube, it will keep your glass cleaner for longer without costing you much.

  9. this is a very good tip.

before I clean my downstems, which I rarely do so they are very dirty, I run them through hot water for a while.

The hot water gets off a shit load of the large chunks, and certain parts of the stem are already perfectly clear before I even clean it.

But for me, I clean my shit regularely, but have never been able to get it "perfectly" clean. But I get it to the point where the light brown stain is not visible unless looking at it through the light.

After a hot water soak put Oxyclean spray-n-wash, or laundry soap in the dirty chambers and put in denture cleaner tablets like polident that have a foaming action. Then add hot tap water with the soap and tablets. the bubbling will loosen the resins and can then be rinsed in hot water leaving no aftertastes. Some people use boiling water when using this method but I don't recommend this at all even though the cleaning is quicker.

PS: This will foam over, be sure to put it in something to catch the runoff, not on the counter top.

  11. The lines that you are still seeing after you clean are more than likely from minerals in your water. I would try something like CLR or I read somewhere that vinegar works. Once you get it cleaned I would suggest using filtered water in your piece.

  12. Everything said on here is right, but unless you are familiar with how a percd bong works, it will be much harder to clean it. I have a 2 perc piece and its always hard to clean the lower perc. The trick is to clog the joint with some sort of cork or glass stopper then pour in simple green, hot water with oxyclean or detergent and let it sit. I use salt and iso for a quick clean, but I find that the salt cant reach the bottom perc.
