So i Own a Roor(small logo) 6 arm tree beaker base bong and a locally blown two foot worked bong, also a few spoon pipes no longer then six inches. I recently picked up a gallonjug of simple green concentrate under advice from grass city threads. Now my question is that if I use a large mason jar, can i fill it most of the way with the simple green liquid and after using my bowl let it soak in it and next time i use that piece, usually a day later just wash it out virtually leaving me with a clean piece everytime i smoke? I realize it'd be very hard with the bongs but if this idea works with the spoon pipes i would be willing to find a mason jar big enough for my roor, (about 16 inches). Thanks! happy toking
i guess u could use a mason jar for your spoon/pipe or even bowls and downstem...even a ziplock bag would work as for your bong i use 99% iso alcohol and some salt...try puttin some salt in with what your using plug up any holes n shake it like a polaroid picture
Another question, is it bad for the glass to use Epsom salt as opposed to sea salt or coarse kosher salt
Na I don't think so....table salt should b the cheapest tho... Most ppl use table salt...aslong as it rubs againts the glass ur fine...u could prob use sand too
You can pick up big boxes of store brand Epsom salt at pharmacies on the cheap. A box will last you a while.
if it's as abrasive as salt. the salt scrapes against the glass when you shake the piece so anything with the same texture would
I'd like someone with some education to confirm this, but I'm wondering if the chemicals used in many of these kinds of cleaners can actually weaken the glass over time IF you soak them for long periods (making it brittle, thinner, etc.) Only reason I say that is the person working my LHS said they noticed this with their own pieces. Seemed to have gotten thinner or didn't quite fit right over time (mainly soaking downstems) Not sure if the type/quality of glass would be a factor here, or the type of chemical used, but I only soak mine for about an hour or two in Grunge-Off. Works like a champ, and cleans the shit out of even the nastiest pieces. I've heard Simple Green works just as well, and a hell of a lot cheaper. My advice would be to soak it for as long as necessary. Most of the time, I can soak a piece in the amount of time it takes me to get ready for work the next morning. Doesn't really need an overnight soaking.
I see where your coming from but glass is very non reactive and bongs and pipes are made of borosilacte which is lab grade glass and they put a lot harsher solvents in it than rubbing alcohol or citric acid Edit found this about borosilacte And most people aren't cleaning their glass with hydrofloric acid
I use this stuff called 420 cleaner, it's like $7 a bottle. I pour some of that stuff along with warm water in my pieces, bongs and pipes, swish it around for a good minute or so then pour out. Depending on how dirty my pieces are I sometimes double swish then clean them thoroughly with warm water and soap. This stuff has spot-less cleaned 4-5 yr old pieces, the cleaner stinks but it's cheap and does the job incredibly!
I prefer rock salt (though I can't find it anymore?). It has good weight and sharp edges, table salt takes FOREVER!
