Cleaning a pipe?

Discussion in 'Beginner Cannabis Consumption & Tips' started by ljschmitt3, Sep 2, 2012.

  1. Ok so I am new to the forums and i was just wondering what everyone thinks is the best way to clean a glass pipe. I have a spoon pipe and I am having the hardest time trying to keep it clean. Before anyone tells me that this post already exists, I would have searched for it but the search is disabled at the moment. Any suggestions are welcome, just please let me know soon

P.S. i am preferably looking for the fastest way too.

  2. i put mine in a small sandwich bag and fill it with isopropyl and salt...just enough to submerge your piece completely...i let it soak for an hour or so then i shake the shit outta the bag...then just rinse with hot water and use a Q Tip to get in deep...i do this quite often, i hate letting resin buildup on my piece

  3. ISO alcohol and salt, but your pipe in a bag with the ISO an salt and either shake it or let it sit for awhile

  4. You can boil it in some water, or put some rubbing alcohol in it for awhile.

  5. how much salt do you use in the alcohol?

  6. Some lol

  7. I always just boil mine for about 5 minutes, occasionally i slosh it around in the water with tongs and can see the chunks of res breaking off inside and floating out of the pipe. After it's done boiling i shake it around in the water a bit more then put it down to cool a minute, then rinse thoroughly with hot water, using a q-tip for any detailing (usually i just have a few res spots to mop up near the edges of the fume and the rim of the bowl but the middle of the bowl is normally completely clean just from the boil. I find this method to be quicker and more effective than iso and salt, which i have tried a couple times and wound up having to do multiple attempts, i guess i was too impatient to let it sit long enough. 5 minute boil does just fine... just have steel wool to clean your sauce pan with, as it'll geta decent ring or resin around the sides from the waterline depending on how dirty the pipe. Also turn the exhaust hood on on your stove while boiling, and open a window. It'll smell in your kitchen kind of like when you cook edibles but it doesn't last too long once you're done a cleaned up.

  8. Do the salt and alcohol method.

Also buy some pipe cleaners, dip them in iso and run them through it.

I find it kinda funny that when I was little I used pipe cleaners in art projects and only made the connection not too long ago.

    Some lol[/quote]

Just enough to get inside your piece...the salt helps scrub off resin when you shake it up

  10. Use some sea salt or something close to that as its more coarse than regular salt.

  11. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I tried the iso and salt and it worked great but I think I'm gonna try the boiling way too. It would just be awesome if I didn't have to buy iso so often haha.

  12. Rubbing alcohol, salt and some warm water. It does wonders.

  13. Thanks for this posting this thread, very helpful. I have been using Formula 420 to clean my little ceramic pipe for the past couple years, but I probably won't buy another bottle. I like the Formula 420 solution, it cleans quickly and completely after a 2 minute shake in a plastic bag and after a good hot water rinse, I can use my pipe again almost right away. The salt and alcohol method is much less expensive though, and doesn't require a whole lot of waiting. Plus, that is almost exactly all that is in most commercial cleaners anyway! The first bottle I bought was 16 oz. for only $8 at my LHS, and it lasted a year. My pipe is only a few inches and mostly used for personal use, but I use it daily and I can pack alot into the little thing, so it gets black pretty quickly. The second bottle I bought a few months ago was $15 for a mini 4 oz. bottle. The clerk had no idea why the price changed, she just started working there. What I have left will last me another few months, but, like I said, probably the last time I buy that now that I know a much cheaper way!!

  14. When you ISO and salt using the same bag with the dirty stuff it actually works better than using new stuff everytime. Weird.
