Citric acid and ppm decrease

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by Organics4Life, May 17, 2018.

  1. What's up guys. Got a small organic grow going and was/still am having some issues. The issues came about when i started using my tap water. I was using distilled but I got tired of buying water. So I decided to get a pH and ppm meter to check my tap. The pH is around 8(which I think is what my problem is) and ppm is about 130. So I got some citric acid to lower the pH. When i use it to adjust the pH, the ppm drops to about 100. I guess my question is, does anyone know what could be falling out/evaporating out of the water? Sorry for the long winded post. Thanks guys!

  2. Citric acid not only acts to reduce soil/water pH, it's also a chelating agent. This means that if forms complexes with metallic cations in solution. It takes them out of the soil solution/water, but binds them in a way that keeps them plant available, but unable to react with anions floating around in the soil solution to form precipitated compounds, which are unavailable to plants.
