Cisco certified network associate

  1. What's your networking background?

Before a CCNA course, make sure you have a decent understanding of networks in general. Subnetting is huge, but understanding things like VLANs and VPN tunnels helps a lot too.

It's definitely useful info to have. I always stumble upon random Cisco networking devices and it's a lot better to be able to say, "Well give me the password and I'll take a look at the config".

  3. Hey what would you blades advise me on?
I'm in a career program that will allow me to come out of my senior year with my comptia a+ and one other I think.
I'm No doubt gonna get certified as the class is basic IT knowledge.
But I'm interested in going into networking after I get my a+, what did y'all do? I already have experience in servers and other blackhat networking.

(Plan to Major on computer science)

  4. Yeah, I was wondering about this as a career. My friend was just learning out of the book and took and passed a ccna test. Can you get a job with just a ccna certificate?

  5. I won't lie, finding a job will be tough even when you have a cert (and even a degree). EVERYONE wants someone with on-the-job experience. But if you keep searching you will find someone who wants an up-and-comer and is willing to show you the ropes a bit.

  6. I studied by myself for a little over 2 weeks. Look up The Bryant Advantage. It's a great resource for learning everything you need for the CCNA, and it fully prepares you for the exam. You can even set up access to use a lab and practice. It can all be done from home. I just studied hardcore and it was worth it. If you already have good computer knowledge then it shouldn't be an issue.
