Chronic Use and Morning Stomach/Abdominal Pains

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by Skz, Aug 16, 2008.

  1. I have been smoking 3-4 grams daily for the past couple of months. About 3 weeks into the daily habit I started getting bad stomach pains in the morning. My doctors have no idea what's up and the test all come back negative. After some reading on a few different forums I noticed others with similar problems, and even a few articles on Marijuana Morning Sickness.

I took a 4 day break the past week and the pains didn't go away, so I'm thinking the damage is already done or it has something to do with weed's long half life

    Can anyone relate?

  2. Is your doctor aware of your drug use?

What tests has your doctor run you through? What has he considered?

  3. Try searching these forums for "stomach pain" you will get a couple good threads.

I get this too, but have realized that mine is usually from binge eating after not eating all day. ((a lot of times im so busy throughout the day i only eat once if at all, so when i come home around midnight, i like to smoke then eat so i prolly eat more than i should, causing the stomach pain the next day))

But that might not be your situation, go search bro

  4. No, I didn't tell my doctor out of fear of being labeled a drug user/seeker. I thought it was Crohn's Disease but my doctor and I agree my symptoms don't quite match up.

I also have a hard time accepting what most consider a stomach wonder cure to be causing me so much stomach pain.

  5. I have done numerous searches on this and other sites but most of the information is only similar to my problem, and nothing conclusive has come of the threads, mostly people asking about the pain but not getting answers.

I do binge eat, but this is because the pains start off strong in the morning and taper off towards the night. At night I usually smoke up and munch out. Could it be that I'm stuck in a cycle?

Also, Smoking weed has NO Immediate effect on the pain, negative/positive, just helps with my appetite.

  6. I think this is on of the first things you should do. Let your doctor know that you smoke cannabis recreationally and you think that there is a direct correlation between that and the pain you're experiencing.

Not only can this assist in a diagnosis, but your doctor will appreciate it, as it changes the risk factors for many conditions and can help him more effectively oversee your health.

Doctors take something called the Hippocratic Oath, and part of that is not to judge or squelch the lifestyle or choices of their patient.

It's something I think you should strongly consider.

I'm going to have to trust your doctor's judgment there.

Drugs effect many people differently, especially such a unique drug as cannabis. The overall pharmokinetics of cannabis are not totally understood and many areas yet to be sufficiently investigated.

I hope you feel better soon

  7. I have stomach pain all of the time, after about the first week of it I asked my dad about it(hes a doc), he said since it got better when I ate its prolly an ulcer and I went and got tested and thats what I had. Go to web md and type in your symptoms, just saying it could be anything.

  8. If you binge eat before you go to bed then it could cause stomach problems the next day. When you sleep your metabolism slows down (b/c your not eating for 6-8 hours and your body needs the save the energy for other functions) so the undigested food just sits in your digestive tract. This could cause stomach cramping, gas, or even diarrhea.

I dont know if this is what you are going through, but it could be the issue. I am having inflammation in my descending colon area and my stomach that comes in goes throughout the day. We dont think mine is anyway related to smoking.

  9. That's not entirely correct.

More information on what is known and not known about sleep and digestion: http://books.google.ca/books?id=FwK...&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=6&ct=result

  10. i get these too but i never dirrectly related it to weed.

i think i get mine because i work in a resteraunt in the morning and i just dont wanna eat when im working and then when i get off i go and smoke then am not around food and dont wanna pay for it. then when i get somewhere i can eat i just chow down and this is usually around 11 at night. plus i hafta take a dump every morning

  11. I can relate. First off, marijuana morning sickness is nothing compared to let's say a heroin morning sickness. I used to wake up with some cramps (not every morning), and a slight headache and have to smoke... as soon as I do I feel better and I can eat. I'm not sure what causes it, but I'm sure its all mental. I think a lot of it has to do with the quality of the weed you smoke. There could be something in the weed you smoke that's upsetting your stomach. If you smoke a large amount (lets say a whole blunt to yourself), right before you go to bed, then I'm certain you will wake up with a sour stomach. Try not to smoke RIGHT before bed if you do. Try smoking stronger strains so you litteraly smoke less per day but achieve the same high or better.

  12. lol man.. you probably just need to take a shit..

  13. Agreed. Although for me, I have IBS and it doesnt help me much.

    Thanks for the literature.

  14. Sounds like you are just stuck in a rut and not being kind to your body. Do you HAVE to smoke so much?

There are so many things that it could be. Might be a food allergy. Might be some sort of acid stomach from eating before bed. Maybe you are dehydrated from smoking so much?

I'd say try cutting back (dramatically) on the MJ and take note of what you are eating and when, and see how you feel afterwards. Be kind to yourself! :D

  15. smoking causes chronic bronchial and sinus damage.

smoking trees isnt nearly as deleterious to the health of these systems, but it certainly doesnt help ones case.

you very well might be having some sort of drip down the back of your throat. i get a drip down the back of my throat at night from smoking. gives me terrible heartburn in the morning.

my suggestion is to go to a doctor just to make sure you dont have an ulcer or anything else serious. other than that, you might have to cut down/ try a vapo or cooking.

    good luck

  16. the hypocratic oath

translated from ancient greek (which i read but don't speak)

I swear by Apollo, Asclepius, Hygieia, and Panacea, and I take to witness all the gods, all the goddesses, to keep according to my ability and my judgment, the following Oath. To consider dear to me, as my parents, him who taught me this art; to live in common with him and, if necessary, to share my goods with him; To look upon his children as my own brothers, to teach them this art.
I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.
To please no one will I prescribe a deadly drug nor give advice which may cause his death.
Nor will I give a woman a pessary to procure abortion.
But I will preserve the purity of my life and my arts.
I will not cut for stone, even for patients in whom the disease is manifest; I will leave this operation to be performed by practitioners, specialists in this art.
In every house where I come I will enter only for the good of my patients, keeping myself far from all intentional ill-doing and all seduction and especially from the pleasures of love with women or with men, be they free or slaves.
All that may come to my knowledge in the exercise of my profession or in daily commerce with men, which ought not to be spread abroad, I will keep secret and will never reveal.
If I keep this oath faithfully, may I enjoy my life and practice my art, respected by all men and in all times; but if I swerve from it or violate it, may the reverse be my lot.

an "art" in this case is a means with definable (as in they exist, not they are in the definition) goals and terms. you really have to read a couple semesters of graduate work and speak your share of 6th fourth and fifth century (bc of COURSE) greek and understand the context to truely understand what's going on here/there

Yes, that's the Hippocratic Oath, if you happen to be an ancient greek pagan.

    It's been updated:

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:

I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.

I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.

I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.

I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.

I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.

I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.

I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.

I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.

If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

  18. I often feel sick in the morning, it seems basically like heartburn, it gets better if i throw up basically yellow stomach acid. I smoke anywhere from 3-10 blunts a day so i consider my self a heavy smoker. It normally takes a week or two of no smoking before it goes away, i think its just my body overloaded with toxins that makes me sick.

So id suggest, dont eat to many snacks late at night if you can help it, and drink plenty of water throughout the day.

if its a sharp shooting pain its probally something worse than simple heartburn. Also ive noticed that my lungs will burn for a few days after ive taken a break. I believe this is becuase after a few days your lungs start to heal/scar over, and then gets damaged again.

  19. Since its a stomach problem, if its the weed is causing it I doubt vaping (I own a vape) or cooking would help the situation.

I have decided to give up smoking for the next 10 days to see what happens.

I will keep you guys updated, probably pretty frequently since I will have no sleep in the next 10 days :D

    Wish me luck.

  20. i get stomach pains and have no appetite what so ever in the mornings. the only cure i have found to this problem is *drumroll* smoke some more.
