true story. about 10 min ago i get on GC to surf around and stuff and i keep thinking in my head. "damn i wonder what God's views on marijuana and me smoking it. Should i start up smoking again?" (i have quit but now am thinking about doing it again). So i go to the next page and what is the first thing i see? two threads talking about the bible and marijuana and stuff. im thinking what a coincidence here i am thinking about it right when i see the threads. well anyways most of the threads was either talking about 1. how god was not real or 2. how you should smoke. Now i figured both of those responses came up because (mostly) everyone on here is biassed and thinks they should smoke because they do. (not saying you guys are wrong). However, if you are a Christian do YOU think smoking is leading a good Christian life and is acting in the image of God (which we are suppose to do). Has your religious beliefs stopped you from your usage or question you stopping? And do you think it is right for a true Christian and believer in God to smoke? PLEASE DO NOT POST ANYTHING TRYING TO SAY GOD IS NOT REAL OR ANYTHING IN THE MATTER. THOSE ARE YOUR BELIEFS AND I RESPECT THEM AND YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME TO ME AND RESPECT MINE. IT WILL JUST BE A WASTE OF EVERYONES TIME.
I'm a Christian and I smoke daily and I read the Bible almost as faithfully. I honestly love these debates. I realize that as a Christian I am supposed to pick up my cross and follow Christ and I sure don't want to ever steer anyone wrong. However it is my opinion that sin does not come in a bottle or a baggy so there is no conflict when I possess, smoke or grow. My favorite scripture to site on the subject is from Mat 15. The scribes and Pharisees came to Jesus asking: "Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. Mat 15:2 " Then Jesus gives the 'teachers' a lesson about what sin is and where it comes from, but first he gives them a very stern warning that should be wakeup call to all Christians. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Mat 15:9\t Forget the commandments of men; listen to God on the subject of sin. Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. Mat 15:11 In other words nothing that you put in to your body can be a sin. Your sin will be coming out of you and not the other way around. Jesus explains further... Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? Mat 15:17 He then explains where real sin originates. But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. Mat 15:18 Real sin that can really kill you comes from within your heart. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. Mat 15:19-20 Paul tells us that all things are lawful for those not under the law, yet we don't remain drunk and face down in the gutter because that will not benefit us, Christ or the body of Christ. All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 1Cr 6:12 If something is wrong then the Holy Spirit will let you know about it and your conscience will know. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. Jhn 16:13 The most important part of your walk with Christ is your love of God and your fellow man. Weed is not even a factor. Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Mat 22:36-40 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. 2Jo 1:5
I'm sure jesus blazed it,I mean just look at the long hair, goatee, and really mellow and chill attitude, he was a hippie , beside didntgod create all things including herb? I'm sure he knew what it did
I'm an Athiest as well... and my point is plain and simple: Marijuana was created by god, NO? Why else would he have created it? Mmmm?
man im pretty sure im atheist, so i see it from a historical point of view. Where Jesus grew up and lived and died there was alot of weed going around, or in those days, hashish. My point is, back then it was a major cultural thing, there may not be anything specificly about it in the bible, but with historical evidence one could assume that Jesus or ATLEAST one of the disciples smoked weed...hopefully if it was only one disciple it wasnt Judas...that would suck.
I have always believed that God has put herb (as well as shrooms, coca, tobacco, peyote, opium poppies, as well as other psychoactive plants & fungi) on earth for a reason. It's when man refines and distills plants that you get drugs such as alcohol, cocaine, and heroin. There are other ways of consuming herb other than smoking, which makes me wonder if in biblical times they consumed it as food or drink.
I don't believe in God but if he's real then I would like to congratulate him for making such an amazing plant.
I don't understand how one could be an Atheist, do atheists not believe in good and evil? Because to me that's what distinguishes right from wrong its pretty much common sense. I mean do you Atheists really believe that we are here for no reason lol, if you don't believe in a purpose than just kill yourself right now. I think athiests are brainwashed by parents or relatives at a young age kind of like how white trash hillbillies are taught to hate minorities. A lot of things in this world are difficult to understand, it's not in our greatest ability to understand them. That's why we have the word faith, what does Faith mean to you?
of course atheists believe in good and evil do you think that the lack of a higher being telling us something is wrong makes something less wrong? are you really telling people who don't believe in god they don't have purpose? and that they should kill them selves? i don't believe in god but i believe in a higher purpose and a the power of human connection. i believe that anyone should be able to make there own choices about everything as long as they truly believe that what they are doing is right. so i guess im an agnostic this is possibly the most ignorant post i have ever seen on grasscity as to your claim that we have been brainwashed more people leave religion for atheism than the other way around so that doesn't make sense. How can you be sure that you are right about god? you cant and its ok to have faith in something you cant prove but it is not ok to get down on someone for the same thing being that we cant prove god doesnt exist but you are never asked to prove a negative so the you cant prove god doesnt exist is a stupid argument.
I dont consider atheism to be the same for everybody. There is no agreed upon thinking for atheism, aside from something along the lines that god doesnt exist. While that might not be the technical deffinition, its basicly common sense. I personally do not believe in god as an all powerful being, and my "atheist thought" if you will is that there is no proof that god does or does not exist, and there is no solid proof to either. it makes me think of a saying someone has in their sig here (something like this, its all from memory) if a problem can be solved, why cry. If a problem Cannot be solved, why cry good and bad deffinitly exist, as does karma and all those types of things, if they are controlled by a higher beinghowever, i dont think they are. As a human you make your own choices and your choices alone are what give you your oppertunities to suceed or fail.
Wow... That post was just... Wow.... First things first. I went to church as a kid until I was around 6 with my family. My family never talked about God. At some point when I was a young teen I told my mother and sister I didn't believe in God. My sister says she's agnostic, but believe in a higher power because she survived cancer. I think my mother is agnostic as well. I don't know about my Dad. I think the question you were trying to ask was answered by your horrible grammar. If your question was "Without the bible, where do atheist get there morals?" my answer is, it's common sense. I don't rape women and loot houses because I have no desire to. I don't want to kill myself, so I'm not going to. How does God give you purpose. How does being the creation of a higher power give your life any sort of value.
He specified in the original post, this is not a religious debate. I would love to answer your questions for I am atheist, but I'm going to stay on topic. (Not to be offensive, but this was a very ignorant post.) Even if it is a sin, shouldn't God forgive you for doing something which is very hard to define as right or wrong in Christianity? I say do it, if you really love him or whatever he'll forgive you for smoking.
It is on the 2nd page of the Bible. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Gen 1:29 I put a seed in the ground and God makes it grow. If you have a problem with that, take it up with him.
