Christian Faith problems?

    Hey Blades,

    So I dont usually come and ask for advice here.. but I honestly DO have a problem that I pretty much KNOW most of the users on here havent had :rolleyes:

    Long story short:

    I'm a faithful Christian that obviously likes to smoke on occasion to either help me sleep (insomniac) or just relieve stress after a hard day.

    Obviously Christians and weed USUALLY contradict ... but as a knowledgeable smoker I know weed:

    is not bad for you
    is not addictive
    is not discussed in the bible

    however the bible still has all kinds of (prerequisites) for sin! for example... Money is not a sin... but living FOR money and being greedy IS! so the money in itself isn't bad but what you DO with the money is!

    well, my friend smelled weed in my room and he knew i smoked...

    well like I said I like to smoke every now and then the bible doesn't say anything about weed HOWEVER, It talks about "following the laws of your land) which basically means to follow the rules the government makes. well... as you can see weed is illegal here.. in the USA! sooo is it technically a sins in the bible? what would you tell him if you were me?

    haha sorry if its a little jumbled I'm a little up there! =P

    I would tell him that I try my hardest to lead a virtuous life by the ideals I find to be morally justified.

    And all seed bearing plants I give to thee...genesis right? There ya go bro sounds like a good enough excuse to smoke to me. Of course I always say because I have free will I choose to smoke but whatever helps ease your conscious.

    It's a personal choice really.
    From what I know of faith (raised as a Christian and 14 years of Catholic school, not that I am) its all about your relationship with God.
    It is illegal, so it does make it inherently bad in that sense. You need to decide personally whether or not doing something that is illegal is a problem for you and personally - a problem for your faith. Forget whether or not the bible explicitly mentions it.
    Considering you brought it up, its obviously playing on your mind.
    I would go with that, pray on it - its the same basic premises of alcohol, except alcohol isnt illegal (anymore.)

    I recommend you trust YOURSELF to define YOUR morals.

    No one can tell you what is right and what is wrong. Everyone is equal and no matter how many pages of ancient text someone may have to back up their views, it doesn't mean it applies to you.

    If you don't think weed is a sin, or bad, or anything negative...then find a moral hierarchy that fits with YOUR beliefs...

    Don't define your beliefs by your religion, seriously, not worth it.

    well he only reason I'm bringing it up is because a friend smelled weed in my room and knew immediatly I smoked weed... I never once had a problem with it and I still dont my problem mainly lies wth my friend ha

    and did you know that we have THC receptors in our brain!?! is that not a sign ?!?!

    weed is good. jus dont smoke it everyday. u wont go to hell for smokin weed! unless it gets in the way of ur religious duties nahmsayin, thats not good

    For you theists who believe you have free will try this logic

    I am a Christian
    God gave Christians free Will
    Free will is the lack of external constraints on ones choices
    Thus, god cannot predetermine your destiny or decisions

    Just stating the truth man.

    Don't talk about my avatar, lol, it has nothing to do with this. I don't care if Anderson Silva worships the devil he's still gonna be my idol. So him being a Catholic doesn't falter my opinion about him... Not in the least bit.

    I'm not Christian at all, but I used to be pretty devout, so maybe that counts for something. Since the Bible doesn't specifically mention marijuana, I'd assume it would fall in line with drunkenness in the rigid viewpoint of the church. My opinion would be that it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't interfere with your ability to serve.

    Atheism's just as silly as any other religion if you ask me. Agnosticism sounds the most logical. I can be a good person without a 2000 year old book telling me what that is, and there literally is no way of knowing if a god exists. Science is all well and good, but what's behind the science? Don't know, won't know, don't care.
    I'll try to help anyway, Doesn't bother me what others choose to believe. Doesn't the bible allow substances to be used as long as they don't become intoxicated? Weed doesn't really cause intoxication as such, because it's not very toxic.
    The illegality thing I don't know. I mean, it wasn't illegal anywhere until quite recently. Maybe this god fellow didn't expect the world to be retarded and start banning things all of a sudden.
    The times I've felt spiritual I've always thought that if there is a god, I know when I'm doing something that feels wrong or right, and weed just feels right (heavy amounts of alcohol would be the opposite). When I say that though, I definitely don't think a christian god would exist. Way too many rules to sound believable. A christian god would basically be a nazi in my opinion.

    let's try and keep it constructive guys , a guy is asking for advice if people were debating religion like in many other topics i wouldn't care what anybody had to say, but this is different
