Chris Matthews comes out of the socialist closet

  1. Just shut up and blame Bush like your told. Let your betters do the tough thinking for you.

  2. Where does Matthews say " I am a socialist! " ?

If a homosexual comes out of the closet he would state " I am a homosexual! ".

  3. If you can't afford it then figure out a cheaper alternative. You don't need a lawn, replace it with dirt or rocks.

If don't like paying for oil, then don't live a life that is dependent on moving huge distances.

I just don't see the solution to this to be a government takeover of oil. I value the freedom that gave oil company founders the economic incentive to put together such huge operations, and ultimately gave the nation the oil it uses everyday.

Plus doesn't nationalizing oil and making it "cheaper"(markert price wise, overall cost is the same since tax-payers pay for the subsidy) makes it harder for alternative energy to replace it? yes it does because now to effectively replace oil alternative energies non-government subsidized price will be higher than the government subsidized oils price. Thus consumers(who drive the market) will more likely buy oil because it's more cost effective than alternative energy.

  4. You do realize that capitalism exists in Cuba right?

  5. I <3 the law of unintended consequences.

Federal government, on a "crusade" for the "people" and to "save the environment" mandates better fuel standards.

Cost of new cars go up. Poor people can't afford newer cars. So they drive older cars. That are less fuel effecient than the new cars, and more prone to breakdowns etc.

Gas becomes cheaper. People, since it's cheaper, drive more, burning more fuel, creating more pollution. They live further out in the suburbs, building bigger houses, consuming more and more power and energy since forced higher mileage has created lower gas prices.

The government taxes gasoline by the gallon at a flat rate. Cars are more fuel effeciency, less gallons needed to get the job done. Government tax intake decreases.

So if we'd simply let the free market operate people would be using less people, poor people could afford better cars that break down less, cities would be more compact and people would be living in smaller places leaving a smaller carbon footprint, and there would be natural market pressure to find alternatives to gasoline.

Instead, as usual, the government makes the situation worse by trying to 'help' us.

  6. Oh Snap! Droppin dat economics 101. Ahh shittt!

  7. Have you ever been to Cuba ?
