Chica just starting out... NEED HELP!!!

  1. Hi guys, well I need a lil' help here. I've half assed closet grown once before a few years ago but now Im in a spot I can start a real grow roon. I have a nice 10'l x 7.9'w x 6.5'h spot to start in. I have all my walls painted a nice white and insulated the top of my box with the reflective insulation. I have all my soil and some worm casting fish oil ect.. pots and stuff to get started got my lil hands on a dozen WW and bud ice seeds so I figure I just start with that. Now myfirst question is about the lights. I'm not a cheap ass as I want this to work well but need some advice on light systems, ventilation ect...

    1) will a 600hps be sufficent for that area or do I need 1000hps?
    2) I am clueless as to wot sort of aircurculation and ventilation I need as well. I know I definately want to get a aircooled reflector though any recommendations, sites, links,???
    3) wot nutrients can you recommend that work well I got my fertilizers covered (fish oil compond, worm casting) and all organic soil as well. i tried to find rapid gro or eco grow but no luck with that in my area.

I want to also get a pretty quick harvest as well say 9-10 weeks or so I know lighting factors into that...

    4) what do you recommend for light.. 12/12 or would 14/10 work better?

5)as far as germination goes I know about doing the whole paper towel thing but if I have jiffy pots should I just drop the seed in there and have em germinate in it or should I start germination then once they pop open start em in the jiffy pots?

ok well I think that about covers all of my questions to get me started I am sure I will have many more to come. any inof advice from expert/experienced growers is much appreciate.

  2. any budget constraints?

it would be better to have multiple lights for a set up like that..

if your growing soil its going to be a little slower

12/12 works fine, 14/10 would work also im sure.

jiffy pots or paper towels, go with what works for you ;)

here's what you should shoot for :

  3. whats up? your post has to be the first one i've ever seen on gc with pink text haha:smoke:

for a room that big, one light will not work well, even if there was a 5000w light, it would still suck cuz it wouldn't get spread out enough. for a room that big you'd be best off with 4 400w mh/hps or at least 2 600w mh/hps so the all them shits get enough light, otherwise, only the plants right around the light will grow good.

also, it will cost you alot to set up an intake/exhaust for a room that large. it would be cheaper and better for the plants to completly seal up the room (if not already) and use co2 which would be like 3-5 hundred for a setup. if you bought intake exhaust fans, powerful enough to move air through that big of a room, it would probably cost 2-3 times as much as getting a co2 setup. co2 you gotta pay to refill your tank, but using those powerful fans suck a lot of energy, so that would be about the same

i would only use 12/12 cuz some peeps say when you go 14/10 (14 off, 10 on) it makes the plant mature faster, which means less grow time, but smaller harvest. and you need at least 12 hours of dark to start flowering, but if you really want a fast harvest, you should seriously consider growing hydo, cuz plants grow alot faster when doing hydro.

i've never even done an indoor grow in soil, i've always used hydro, but i hear for soil, fox farm nutrients are really good, they're all organic too.

  4. thanks for the reponses guys :) ... Not really on a budget constarant so that isn't any issue. already put $600 into just insulating, pianting and setting up dividers for the room.

so far I have revamped my plans a little after reading other posts and forums. so this is what I go tnow. let me know wot you all think.

    I still have the same size room 10'l x 7.9'w 6.5'h

I split the room so I have a area for new baby clones of 3'l x 3.9' w x 4'h my mother plant has an area of the same size while my cloens would sit on shelves above her. then I have a 8'l x 3.9'w 6.5' h this section this section is my veggitation section where they will veggie at on the other half of the room I divided that for the flowering stage it is 10'l x 4' w x 6.5'h completely sealed off of any light that may try to seep in. with that said what do would you all recommend for venting and cooling ( I have to have this vented for obviuse reasons!!!!) also light recommendations?? I have like 5 75 watt cfl's to light the clone shelf for the first 7 days for them to establish roots and all an I would have my mother under a 2 100 watt clf's as for veggie room (8'l 3.9'w 6.5h) what light would you recommend? I want aircooled reflectors that much I know, and flowering room (10'l 4'w 6.4' h) lighting recommendations?

  5. no constraints?

If your not worried about power consuption, 3 1000w MH bulbs in the veg room and 3 1000w HPS in the flower room (get dual balasts, taht way your veg room can "become" your flower room by just changing your MH bulb to an HPS bulb and the other way around)

Personaly i would seal the whole area, have it nice and insulated. run a 10,000btu AC unit in the veg and a 10,000 btu ac unit in the flower room (motther and clone will be fine with floro's in there)
    you'll need:

80lb (what ever the big one) bottle of c02 (say its or a bar or welding or something) with a distro system and C02 ppm reader

    a de humidifier,

random fans to move the air around in the veg and flower sections

a recirculating DWC set up (like in my sig) with water cooler

plumb in some water and a drain to make it easier.. and a beefy power circuit to run it all.

a good hidden entrence and you should be set ! prolly run ya around 6-7k if you do the work your self.

if you dotn care about plant count, i'd skip all that deviding, make your mother room a lil bigger, and do a perpetual harvest set up,

clones strait to flower for 8 weeks, harvest evrey 2 weeks

there's a thread on here that covers it nicely.. search for perpetual harvest

  6. It is also called "Sea of Green" or "SOG" for short.

  7. ok wow, ummm I mean I have all this space and all but that is alot to take care of to start dont you think?? I mean I dont know if I can grow all of that the way you make it seems sounds like ihave 50 plants or more?? almost seems overwhelming.. plus Im new to growing so i dont want to F*** i t up. i was thinking of starting with my dozen seeds getting a mother or 2 and then try to keep around maybe 25 plants... I dunno if that is less then wot you where thinking so I ..... also th SOG, when u said I can skip all the dividing of my rooms can you explain how I do the flwoering and my light scheduleing?? also Im not savvy with all this equipment so srry 2 sound repetative but can u explain better what I need for venting and aircirculating, dont knwo wot any of those acronims mean sorry. thanks

  8. also for somethign like that wot sort of potting arrangements do i need i mean I have a bunch of 4 gallon pots shoudl i go smaller?

  9. lol, intimidate yes! it just seems overwhelming... well I just bought a house and am moving all my stuff down there now and I sit on a few acres so I have a bigger area to start in now, so I am off to measure that today (the new room) once i get measurements I'll repost them along with my ultimate goal, then maybe you can give me a few pointers or ideas of how to get there:) thanks again everyone for the replies

  10. take pictures too, "worth a thousand words" and all that...

  11. yes, take lots of pictures..

  12. ok once i do my closing Ill get sum pics... i'll post pics of my current area and if I get soem good inputs ill proabbaly just mimic something of the same dimesnsions. thanks agian
